Hey all, Im having a problem with my 98 Mitsubishi Eclipse RS 2.0 420A.

I had swapped the old motor out because it had a hole in the block. The engine I had put in came from a vehicle with an automatic transmission. It was verified that it ran before it was pulled. I am using my original wire harness to from my vehicle with a 5speed transmission.

I have ran a OBD-2 Scanner and have gotten no codes. I have used noid lights at the injector senors and i do not get any light what so ever. No pulse when cranking. No light at all. I am getting fuel to the rails.

This car sat for a while when I got it and after the engine swap was done because I had gotten so agitated with trying to figure it out why it would not start. I keep reading different threads on here about what it could be.

The motor does crank but does not start. The gauges on the inside of the car do light up for a bit, The check engine light and all the others when you have the key on the ON position. It will start for a 1-3 seconds if I have starting fluid sprayed down the intake.

I know I need to get a multimeter to this thing but I am a little confused as to which wires from the ECU or resistor I am suppose to check. If anyone can help me with a bit more simple guide, It would be highly appreciated!

So far, I know I need to check the resistor pack, the injector wires for a 12v that is supposed to be on during the ON position, the wires coming from the ECU. Am I missing anything else? I know that I also need to check if there is a break in any of the lines.

I do not have a anti theft system on this vehicle. I am also gonna pull ECM from the car and open it to see if anything seems off.

If you need any more info, Please let me know. I will try to update as I go. Thanks!

Start off with something simple, check that the fuse for the fuel injection is good and you are getting power there. Then check your MPI relay. Also for the injectors to activate, the ecm needs to see where the engine is at. Check your crankshaft position sensor and or camshaft position sensor with your multimeter. I am assuming you have a manual to check the resistance values of those sensors. Once the ecm knows where the engine is at, it then grounds the injectors to open. Then also check the others you have mentioned. Good luck

I had a similar issue after my car sat for a few years. The battery was dead and I hooked up a jump starter/charger to it multiple times. Everything acted and sounded normal except for the fact that I wasn't getting fuel. After changing multiple relays and chasing wires I decided to get a new battery and throw it in. It fired right up after that. Just a thought.

I had a similar problem with my 1g. Turned out to be a fried ecu. I had a buddy let me use his and it fired right up.

No manual. Been googling as much as I can on everything. Ill check those as well. Do you know which one is the Fuel Injector relay?

Tried googling it but not getting a definitive answer.

Im actually using my battery from my daily driver as my Eclipse does not have one atm.

So I got the multimeter out and set it to ohms. I checked the injectors on the rail and I am getting 12.1, 12.4, 12.5, 12.5 ohms. Im gonna try to check the wires next. Im supposed to be getting 12v to those right?

If your going to check injectors for pulse, all you're going to see is voltage pluses not a constant voltage reading. So don't look for 12 volts. The best thing to use is a test light not a multimeter.

Im gonna recheck all of my injectors with a noid light. Just to make sure again.

I was checking my camshaft position sensor with a multimeter to see if I got a reading, Which I did. I just need to find of that os the value it should be inbetween.

Where is the fuel injector fuse? Trying to locate it or google it is not really coming up with anything

Here try this.

also try this wiring diagram, not the best I found but it's something.

Also did you see if you are getting spark? I saw some other post's with same issues. there have been bad cam position sensors, bad ecu, and just a bad wiring harness. you will just have to troubleshoot and figure out this issue. we do not know what is done to the car, and how you installed the engine. you could have made a simple oversight by not connecting an electrical connector.

Good luck with getting the engine started. and please let us know what the end result is so people in the future can come see this thread and point them in the right direction.
