Hello. I have an issue I took all the belts off and Marked the timing spots on the belt as well as cam gears.. I then took off water pump and oil pump.. Found out I DID NOT have a balance Shaft Delete Like the guy had said he had done.. so I am now wondering if he actually did the Stroker Kit to it like he had stated in the AD.. HE never did give me all the paperwork associated with his build.. GRRR.. but anyway.. My Nut to the CRANKSHAFT is rusted on and will not come off.. I was wondering is there a way to break it free I have used an IMPACT WRENCH on it and it has just turned in the block.. I then had someone hold the wheel and it just keep trying to spin.. I USED PB Blaster and let it sit then tried.. I am now on trying to use map gas?? I have that I just don't know it could melt a few plastic parts that are still on the wheel and if it gets in contact would melt

This is the picture of the bolt and the plastic around it is kinda discolored. any Suggestions to keep the crank still enough to maybe use a breaker bar.. Thanks for any insight..

First off make sure you have a good way to keep the crank from spinning, if you have a floor jack, pull the lift pipe off and use it as a cheater bar [or get a large long pipe to use as a cheater bar] slid it on your 1/2 socket, and then use the 22mm socket over the crank bolt, you need a lot of torque to break it loose, this has worked for me on a number of these motors, I have managed this pb blaster or wd40 the bolt in advance I have also heard that heat sometimes helps, but I have never had to resort to that on my motors so far.

One way to stop the crank from turning, is to make the special tool, http://vfaq.com/mods/cranktool.html or you can buy it from a vendor.

I had a similar issue long ago, and like you, my engine was on a stand. I ended up putting a bolt into one of the pressure plate to flywheel holes, and put a long wrench over the bolt, then rotated the crank around to where the wrench prevented movement because the engine stand mount bolt was in the way. Then I used a breaker bar to break the torque on the crank bolt. Just an idea to try.

1" impact, Should take about 3 chugs and that thing should come off. I was lucky I had a buddy with a super big impact.

This is what I have done in the past:
  1. Screw a couple of flywheel bolts part way in (make sure they're in decently far).
  2. Wedge a combination wrench in between the flywheel bolts and the engine stand. It works best if you loop the closed end around one of the bolts.
  3. The crank should no longer rotate. Grab your favorite breaker bar and pipe and go to town.

big hammer is your friend. hammer top first to compress head slightly. this loosens bite of threads. no special tool needed after. weak impact will remove.

I've always had more luck with just a really long pry-bar and my floor jack's handle doing extra leverage than my impact gun. I usually try impact first which also serves to loosen the thread bite a little and then use physics and a little brute force for the rest LOL.

Thanks guys for all the input on this issue. I have a 2.5hp 25 gallon tank Compressor.. and my impact is a snap on and should be adequate. I got it from my Uncle he was a bus mechanic.. im gonna try putting bolts in the flywheel and using the jack handle an good ole breaker... just hope the stand holds my engine up LOL hope I don't slam it on ground.. ill have someone to help hold it.. Again thanks and ill keep you posted on how it goes..

Good, luck getting it off. And just a note, you said this engine didn't have the balance shafts deleted but the picture clearly has had the front shaft deleted. Hence the freeze plug stuck in the front case where the front shaft would be.

I FINALLY GOT IT.. I Wedged a bar behind on the FLY WHEEL and then used a breaker bar and finally the GUN got it the rest of the way off so plenty of cleaning with mineral Spirits or possibly new bolt but its off WOOOT thanks guys for the information.. GREATLY APPRECIATED...

So the Circle above where that shaft is sticking out with the Red Seal is a Freeze Plug for where the Front shaft was?... im new to the engine building game.. so I wasn't sure.. and I was watching a Delete Video to check n see myself but Thank you for the information.. I am Measuring now to see if the stroke is 88 or 100 mm I hope its the stroker he said but since you said tthere IS A DELETE then im pretty sure there is the Stroker kit he said unless he did a delete for no reason LOL...

Ill be posting soon as to the GASKET Condition and Condition of the BLOCK and Head... Should I Deck or is it still smooth idk.. We Will See... Talk Soon...

Thank You and Be Blessed...

Here are the pictures on the Head and the Block... EEEEshh not so pretty but I think it can all be cleaned up and good as new.. BUTTT.... Let me know if you guys feel more should be done like machine or decking and my pistons and valves are CORRODED Not all I think its Number 1 Cylinder.. its the first Piston on Flywheel side. I also think they had a MLS Gasket ill post pics too but if they did can I just get another MLS and use it or do I need it DECKED again?? I am gonna post a WHOLE NEW post on this issue. Since this Thread was ANSWERED.. ill Post the link BELOW if you cant find it on new posts.... but here are the pictures let me know HERE or on the NEW THREAD what you guys think..
