This is my first post on DSMTuners. I joined way back in 2003 but never posted, just lurked and read the forums. I grew up in the 80's/90's and have always loved the 1G Talons. I have previously owned a 1G FWD Talon 5 speed which I drove until it blew a head, then I bought a bone stock 1G AWD Talon 5 speed that needed a new head but I never got around to it and sold it a few months later.
About a month ago I was browsing Craigslist as usual for DSM's and a gem popped up. An original owner 59k mile, bone stock 1G AWD Talon Automatic. For the low low price of $500. It turned out the car had a blown ECU! It currently has a new timing belt so I don't have to worry about that.
The body has only 1 spot of rust about the size of a quarter, located inside the doorjam. The paint looks great even before a full restore, and the bumpers only have 1 or 2 rock chips. There is however, a water leak which I will have to figure out where it's coming from. When I opened the trunk for the first time a ton of water poured out.
I know alot about DSM's from the 90's and early 2000's but I have been out of the DSM world for so long, it appears so much has changed. Automatics are good now?!?! Pics are located in the build journal. I will upload more as I complete the initial exterior detailing.
