I tried DEI's universal kit. Meh wasn't really happy, it worked well but since I have everything off rather than try to put it back on since it uses steel straps you thread through the material which I trimmed a bit to much, and the aluminized portion all flaked off I figured I would see if anyone knows of something better without spending 200 dollars.

I searched for a while on the subject as well, and not wanting to drop big money on the DEI one, I went with a cheap ebay T3 universal one. While not perfect Ill take it over nothing. Had it for over a year now and it still looks good. I can keep my hand on it after a few pulls without an issue.

So far the quality seems outstanding! I can't wait to put it on.

I also put some DEI "Cool Tape" on the top of the J pipe nearest the exhaust manifold. It's rated to withstand 1500*F, not sure how much it will help but I figured it couldn't hurt?

The connection between the J pipe and the 90* coupling by the alternator is not the most refined... but then neither is that J pipe. One day i'll make one myself rather than modify someones but for now it will do. I have some header wrap as well, I'm thinking about trying to just lay some across the top of the manifold and then bolt the heat shield down... not sure if that would do much either? Would that be a bad idea seeing as it would insulate the top a little and no where else, causing a difference in thermal expansion on the manifold? I don't want to promote cracking.

Even with the turbo blanket, I threw the bottom shield on... figured it can't hurt, right?

How is your heat-shield holding up?
I am also considering buying the thermal zero turbo blanket (part#TZ1155-R).

Is that thermalzero turbo blanket a DSM/Mitsubishi specific blanket, or a universal t3 style? I would like to get one myself before I put my newly refinished lower heatshield on my car.

Just recently got a Thermal Zero myself, made in U.S.A and seems like a really nice product compared to the other junk I have tried and removed, looks really nice too, they come in different colors.

And here is a picture.

eBay t3 style works fine, just trim for the wastegate.

However it is a one time use, after a month or two of driving it will become hard and brittle and flake off and destroy your skin. It will still work, but if you ever attempt to take it off do not do it In anything less than a fully covered hazmat suit. I was itching for days after removing it

To be clear, it was working fine, great heat reduction and it seperated hot and cold side perfectly, but when my 14b developed an internal boost leak, the turbo blanket was crusty and burnt. I was not able to re use it

So yeah $20 you get what you pay for

Not sure who this is directed at, but the one I posted I believe was listed as fitting the 14b and 16g turbo's if I recall correctly, and it does as well as, well in the pictures I posted.

I have one thats modified for a subaru due to the bigger o2 housing and it sits well, made my funk here in the UK its nicely built and seems to be working well as far as i can tell, best pic i got, sorry
