Ok, here's the scoop. Over the last week my car has developed this terrible noise when turning the wheel or you can hear it slightly going over bumps or railroad tracks. Tonight I finally had the chance to get under the car and do some looking into the issue, I picked up some silicone lubricant and applied it liberally to the suspension component. After that the noise seemed to go away however a short drive later and the awful noise had returned. If anyone has any ideas on what could possibly be the cause of this sound I would greatly appreciate some input and help!

I recommend to start with inspecting your ball joints. Look for obvious signs of wear/damage and inspect the boots for tears/rips. On the front of a 2g, there are 2 lower front control arm joints, 1 upper, and 1 tie rod end. From there, move to inner tie rod and bushings.

It's the lower control arm have a buddy turn the steering wheel and go under the front and feel the lower control arm while he turn it. You will feel lots of vibration

Specifically check the compression arm (curved), and contact your local mitsu dealer with the VIN to make sure the straight LCAs were replaced under recall. Of course, even OEM arms wear out again overtime but you may luck out and get free replacements, then you only have to pay for the compression arms.
First thing I always do when buying a DSM is to replace all Control arms, tie rods, sway bar links, etc. since most people neglect them. It's a helluva lot easier to do them all at once than to go back 20 times.

Ah, that all-too familiar and dreaded sound we all know too well. Had this on both DSMs I've owned. Now, what the Wiseman has said is the best way to approach this. However, I would suggest before you start replacing everything part by part, spray some lubricant on your 2 sway bar rubber bushings under the front of the car and go around the block for a test drive. In my case it was those little devils, they turned hard over time and grind against the sway bar with movement.

Thanks everyone for the input, I recently had one of the ball joints replaced on the front right. I'll have to pull the wheels off and look into it more in depth. I'll keep you posted to see how it goe. Thanks again!
