So just finished buying car about month ago and was planning to take it tracking. Well...... that's been postponed by a few months maybe. Hopefully weeks. So the previous owner has had the block rebuilt. (Was never told this). I started fixing the basics, lines, fluids, brakes etc. well when I finally got it running I realized that it was getting to much blow by. Did leak down test and compression test.all pistons were at the 15% leak And piston 2 leaked oil. So finally took apart head and it was fine. Not a single problem. Looks clean. The inside sleeves where all scuffed and damaged. So now I'm rebuilding the block. I took it to machine shop and the guy had told me that it has already been worked on before and it was bored out to max. He said no one makes pistons that big for it. He looked around and apparently wiseco makes pistons bigger for the size I might need it would be bored to 1.5 I believe. This is where my questions come in. Is there a downside to this? It's being bored more than normal. Will this make my block more brittle? On the pictures I have a list of parts that I would be installing. Beside the pistons. The estimate was made before he actually looked at it. So is it worth rebuilding block. It's really hard to find parts out here in socal and no postings on dsm for LA region. Any advice on what can be done or should I just go through with the build ?

A lot of people run engines .020" over with no problems (myself included). Pistons are easily found in that size. I don't see why it would need to be bored further than that, but pistons are available at .040" and .060" oversized. I'm not sure what he means by 1.5 bore, unless he means 1.5mm (~.059"). It seems like there aren't many options for a replacement engine around you, so you may try shopping around for a shop that has more experience with a 4g63.

Hope that helps.

If you do a bit of searching, you'll find that most people say that boring .060" can be risky business. You run the risk of cutting very close/into the water jackets. Results will vary from block to block, depending on how well the mold was aligned when the block was cast.

The guy didn't explain to me very well about the sizes. But he claims to have some dsm cars himself. Just picked up
Block and he had mentioned that the block had been worked on few times. Info he gave me wasn't very good. So I don't know if I should just find new block ( kind of impossible) or tonjist rebuild the one I have.

He did mention that cutting it that close would mean that I'm compromising the block by shaving it so close.

Not sure if your interested in a JDM spec 4G63 but it looks like ichibanjdm.com may have a motor :idontknow:. It doesn't give too much info about it, but it's right up 605 in poco Rivera. Your avatar sais your in la Miranda, doesn't look too far.

Well ended up buying a whole new engine from this place. Gonna have it installed today / tomorrow and hopefully have it by this weekend. Do I need to worry about my Ecuador? Or will it be fine?
