So, I am putting back a motor that I never ran. Doing some custom stuff. I've rebuilt 3 4g63 engines, but all close to stock before. I am putting a 2g head on a 6 bolt block. The head came with aftermarket cams. I have never been able to positively identify them. It also had same small washers for shims under the HLAs, but when all was said and done, I only had 12 on hand. I also want to replace the 2g HLAs with the 3g ones I have.
Question- Do I just replace the washers with 4 more of similar thickness, or is there an official measurement procedure to determine the proper shim thickness?
