This might be a semi-newbie question, but I'll post here: I was replacing the wheel cylinder in the driver's side rear wheel brakes a few days ago, which I still have as the drum brake setup. After putting it all back together, it's leaking from the fitting where the metal brake pipe goes into the wheel cylinder. I tightened this a bit yesterday, and the leak is now worse. I don't know exactly where the problem is but I'm assuming it's the 15+ year old metal hose. I did the passenger side wheel cylinder about a year ago and had no leak problems there. The part # that comes up for that little brake line hose is MR129797 , but the pictures I see in the online parts suppliers (some Ebay) don't look the same as this pipe. The question right now is, can I just go to Autozone and pick up some brake line and fittings (that their catalogs say is compatible with my vehicle) and replace that part? Is there a way to patch up that leak temporarily?

What do u mean by wheel cylinder? Are u referring to the brake caliper?

No the wheel cylinder is a part of the drum brake hardware. It has pistons which push out the shoes when the brakes are applied. A photo of the good one on the passenger side is attached. Also the best shot I have on the leak, which is on the other side of the driver's side drum brake. I think maybe what's happening is that the aftermarket suppliers are selling a high-pressure rubber brake hose as the replacement for the OEM curvy metal one.

Ah. I see. No experience with drum brakes on a dsm but have changed those lines repeatedly. I believe they are flare fittings and seal when u tighten them. Looks like there may be a small crack/hole. If it were me I would replace the entire line. Maybe look into replacing all the lines with russel brake lines or hit the junkyard. I believe the 3000 gt and older galants have the same type.

I checked into Russel, I might do that sometime but I'm not sure about the value for street driving. I didn't have the right part #, it's actually MB857825, a lot harder to find but it is out there. Here's what I did: I picked up this product Poly-Armour PVF steel brake line PAJ-312, at a PepBoys. It's longer that the OEM brake "tube", but actually bends by hand. It has the preflared M10X1.0 ends. Attached are images of the OEM part I took out, and the PAJ-312 line I installed. Seems to be holding good pressure. Should I still get the MB857825?

Edit: I guess something's still leaking. Haven't tracked it down.
