Just wanted to post vouching for redline mt90. I've been working towards getting the DSM how I want it and catching up on maintenance, etc. Just swapped out some old Pennzoil synchromesh out for Redline mt90 this afternoon. I wasn't having shifting issues except for being locked out of 3rd at high rpms if I wasn't shifting perfectly and some occassional notchiness when downshifting. The main issue I noticed was a terribly noisy bearing in neutral that went away when the clutch was depressed. (throw-out bearing possibly?)
This MT90 Cured the bearing noise and the transmission shifts like butter. For anyone on the fence about making the 50 dollar investment, I would definitely recommend it :applause: great stuff...

How many quarts do you need for trans / diff in a 1g?

google is your friend. search engine on this forum is your friend. www.vfaq.com is your friend. Be sure to use them.

~2.4-2.6qts in 5-speed FWD/AWD 4G63T transmission.
~7.1qts in automatic FWD/AWD transmission.
~0.5qts in transfer case.
~0.9qts in rear differential.

Fluid volume replaced varies by amount remaining after drained.

I'm curious about the redline 75w140

It states right on there page not recommended for manual cars. And it's also GL-5 rated.

Which I thought was bad for our cars. Which are GL-4?

I'm looking to do some maintenance, and wondering as well what is the recommended fluids for road racing application (if it matters)

I have a shep stage 3 trans and as per recommended by him (not the same as jacks) 1qt mt90 2 qt's light weight shockproof in the trans. And i change it often to keep viscosity up. ive ran 133mph in the 1/4, not super high hp but it's been good so far, was recommended up to 600whp, trans breakage is usually based around tq though. and I'm gonna be pretty past that this next motor so we'll see how long it lasts. im pretty sure shep modifys his trans to be fine for the thicker oil, so thats not a good idea for a stock trans. It's only a 5 year old trans.

With that said, I'm considering what @twicks69 has been recommending which i dont remember exactally what it was, but 75w-140ns??

I prefer 75w140NS Redline gear oil because shockproof gears oil have paraffin in it and it likes to seperate out and clog oil passageways.

The Archers that raced the Talons for the factory always used Redline products. I have 269K miles with Redline and no complaints!

Yeah I'm going to use that next, i think shep enlarges the oil passage ways so they wont clog as easily? i havnt torn it apart to verify. Either that or the fact i changed it every 1500 miles (every other oil change) kept it fine sometimes I'd do 2qt mt90 1qt lightweight. If the 140NS works well for me I'll be done with shockproof I'm going to be aiming for 850whp this next motor I'm gathering parts for. So the trans isnt going to last regardless of what i try or put in. LOL I'll go rwd t56 before i go auto tho

I filled one of my transmissions up with some valvoline 85w-140 a couple years ago and got the most abuse before breakage than I got with any 75w-90.

The lesson I learned was that just about any 85w-140 or similar oil is going to protect the gears better than a lighter oil.

Ive been running 2qts mt90 and filling the rest with mtl. Been doing this for 13years. 247,000miles later the trans has had a center diff rebuild, new intermediate bearings, and 3rd synchro changed out with a better used one. Its my daily driver. My other car has 1qt redline 75w-140ns and filled up with mt90, it may work good with rpm but shifts crappy when the trans is cold and its bellow 45*F. Ive drove my daily driver without problems down to -14*F. I run redline in my 3 dsm's and my wj jeep dif's. Redline 75w-140ns is the only oil spec'd out for my jeep differentials, after 15k miles it still looks new. The mopar oil was crap at 10k miles. If I didn't run redline I would run motul.

I didn't know Mitsubishi manufactured oil anyone care to fill me in, my Silverado has to have auto track 2 x-fer case oil but texico makes it? Has anyone compared the diaqueen msds to anything else to determine who makes it?

Eneos makes the oil for Mitsubishi , and is conventional oil, not synthetic.
