That's not bad, I normally spend that but get a HKS belt, I always buy belts separate anyway, so it does work out cheaper! But it's not a bad price though, I would at least opt for an Evo 9 belt as it's much better and stronger

So just mix and matchis gonna be a lot cheaper ?
Not always, I've always bought belts seperately and it saves a little but RTM are good so maybe just stick with them,

You can't go wrong with RTM kit, Maybe this kit will allow you to save on the shipping charge, because your in canada.
I have the gates belts in my car and i'm very happy with it.
How different are they from the OeM?is it just appearance or sturdiness as well

I find extrempsi is more competetive with pricing. With oem belts and the timing tools I'm getting 555. US
Might be worth it to ship em to my trailer in Idaho and pick em up when I go there.

The right tools are very helpful as with any job. It can be done without them but I have never regretted buying them, if you have the funds for them. Shop around and keep asking questions if in doubt.

Whatever you do, don't cheap out on timing components. You will regret it. OEM tensioner and pulleys always for me. As for belts I have used Gates blue amd HKS Purple and like both.

Okay perfect. thanks for all the input. Seems Like I will order the stuff hopefully couple next weeks I will be doing my first timing belt job. One more thing. If my timing belt (the one I am replacing) is in good condition do I keep it or toss it ?

Replace it all and it's good for another 60k! Do it once do it right replace it all!!!

Since your going to be tackling the job it's best to go ahead and replace all the components. Oem belts are fine in my opinion but I'm using the gates. Been great for several years aaaaaaand this was my first timing belt job. Man was I nervous LOL

Please don't ever think about reusing a timing belt :nono:. You're already there.

Sorry, bad idea. I shall never be a sinner.
Your crazy if you pay that....here use this link and order your parts. You can even have the option to order the OEM Evo Kevlar belt.

The kevlar is the extra durable one ?

Have you guys elininated your balance shaft assembly? How come am I getting such a different price range on water pumps between websites?

The biggest bump in price from your order in post #1 is the OEM water pump. If you can afford it, those perform well. If on a budget, I have been happy with gates or Aisin water pumps. They have put up with competition conditions without failure. If possible, I would take apart the timing side to investigate if additional parts are needed. Oil seals for the cam shafts, oil pump, and font main seal can be easily overlooked. On my last timing service, I needed to replace both cam seals and oil pump sprocket seal. Also, consider replacing the hard, shrunken seals in the timing cover to keep dust/debris out. I.Lastly, consider purchasing a timing tool kit to make the job go smoothly such as the one offered from Extreme PSI below:

For timing belts, I have been rather pleased with the OEM belt, Evo 9 belt, and Gates Racing blue belt (they have a kit with both timing and balance shaft belts part # T167RB)

Well we are always on a budget. But I am already almost 6k into this car. Might as well protect the initial investment. 151k miles and the engine hasn't cranked yet. I think she is a keeper. How will I know if I need to replace those seals ? Can I purchase those from those websites ? I need a front cover for my left wheel well.

I don't feel nervous. Just time and resources are always limited. I like seeing the results. All I want is to soak knowledge. And the more I do the more confident I feel when I tackle anything in life!

As stated above the OEM water pump is pricey. Get the Gates pump there is nothing wrong with it. Deleting the balance shafts is nice because its one less thing to worry about because if that belt goes it will take the timing belt out with it. The Kevlar is stronger but not really needed. But if you really want Kevlar go for the OEM Evo belt because its cheaper then the rest. Also like stated above replace any seal while your in there. Not sure if it was mentioned but you might want to replace the Front seal (crankshaft seal) too.

Well thank you everybody that replied. I really appreciate your input. Very informative. I was feeling lost at first. Glad I opened up this topic.

I just ordered the gates kit from rockauto. Wish me luck. If the motor pops, oh well! I too would recommend all oem. I am taking a chance. Gates makes good product for daily use. I dont daily drive mine. Maybe once a month.
From what i have learned in life, is nothing lasts for ever. I have seen quality parts fail too.
Get informed and dont rush.
I found extrempsi to be much cheaper than rtm. My next order of items will be thru extremepsi. Lets see how customs rapes me.
