So here is my issue and I am just looking for advice:

1992 Mitsubhishi Eclipse
1.8L non Turbo
Automatic
Paid $300
Runs and Drives, frame and body are in amazing shape.

The automatic transmission is stuck in 3rd. No 1st 2nd or OD. I pulled TCU and took it apart and no burn marks and no sign of water damage. However, I am not reviving any codes while TCU is hooked up by using my volatage meter on transmission pin.

So my question is what would I look for next and where is it located?

Sounds like it's in limp mode. Search "blue wire mod" thst way you can bypass the tcu to find out of its wiring or the TCU itself

Yeah I already figured it was in limp mode, but I read on DSMtalk.com that if I pull the battery terminal connectors off and let it reset TCU I can see if it Drives fine for a few minutes and goes back into limp mode that it's the TCU that shit the bed. Any truth to that?

Also I've found out I have dreaded 3 prong TCU so should I take it to a computer place that I know that will repair it for $65?

And still having issue finding blue wire mod, do you have a link?

Thanks for your quick reply!

Also, am wondering what the possibility is that I can do a Auto N/T to Manual ? And if the 1.8L would have any issues being Turbo'd. But that's another matter, i think ill survive with it being an auto for the time being :p:p

If you can make it run and drive as a daily meet it umodded and save your money for the turbod ones. Just my two cents

The a/t to manual swap is pretty easy, its just a matter of finding all the parts.

The motor itself can handle boost no problem, but the stock computer is very limited with its tune. Basically on a stock motor the computer is already just about maxed out with what its able to self tune for, so a piggy back system such as a safc has almost no effect on it. A stand alone engine management system such as megasquirt is really the only viable way to go if you want to boost it. My stock engine has been boosted for the past 5+ years on a 14b. I have a build thread on here pretty heavy in the details with everything i've done to mine if you want to check it out.

I wouldnt say easy. Straightforward maybe but there is a lot of tedious work involved.
