Hey, I have a quick question, the turbo on my 1g is old and leaking a little oil and my brother has a stock 1998 2g turbo that he's willing to give me to replace it. Are they the same turbos and will it just bolt right up? Should I ask him for the 2g manifold as well? Thanks!

oil and coolant lines are different. How the turbo connects to intercooler piping is different and larger diameter. I'm sure there are a few other things as well. I've never tried to put a t-25 on a 1g. Why don't you just rebuild the 1g turbo or contact @JusMX141. He's a beast when it comes to turbos. Hell, he might have something sitting on the shelf ready to go.

Well, I'm no turbo expert, but the 1g turbo had significantly more shaft play than my brothers 2g turbo. I don't exactly know where its leaking from, I have to clean all the sludge off and take a closer look. I just didn't realize the 1g and 2g had different turbos, that's my bad for not looking it up first.

How much side to side play is too much?

For what it's worth, I wouldn't consider putting a T25 on a 1G as a worthwhile investment unless it's temporary and the T25 is all you have as a T25 is truly not even close to being as durable as the TD04/TD05H units that came stock on 1G cars. If you want a quick-spooling alternative to the 14B, look into the TD04 13G which came stock on auto 1G's or even the TD04HL 13T which is the stock turbo from a RVR Sportswagon.

Ok, I don't care to replace the turbo, just had a 2g turbo available. I really don't care to do modifications to get it to fit, especially if the 14b is the preferred option. How much do you charge for rebuilds, or say I wanted to tackle it myself, do you have any videos or how to's on what I need to do? Also, I know I shouldn't be thinking of mods right now, but there's an evo 8 fuel pump for sale in the classifieds for 45 right now. Is that something worthwhile to scoop up?

I thought the turbo on the 2g was smaller and worked harder. Isnt it a 14b for the 1g vs a 13g for the 2g?

14b is 1g manual, 13g is 1g auto.
t25 is 2g (auto manual)
I wouldn't go to a t25 from a 14b. we put a 14b on my brothers 2g and it made a noticeable difference.
