Hi fellow dsm peeps.I had a 1989 conquest 17 yrs ago. Been a ford v8 guy since. I bought a1990 talon lst december aand learning a lot. It has 660 injectors,272 cams.ck 20 turbo at 25lbs boost. Idles like crap but runs down rd like I never seen before from an 8cyl. Huge intercooler, hks wastegate n bov. Someone did a lot of work but still needs tuning.had a vein controller in trunk but won't run at all with It hooked up. Ecm v3 I think. Any suggestions ,comments appreciated, possible hp estimates LOL

I'm even considering to build an engine because I've always wanted to. I have complete drive train from parts car. Maybe switch to auto with paddle shift when I'm 55-60. I want to keep car till I'm too old to drive. Cart behind me in rv n trailer.

why im here and with removing intake, guys, i see alot of guys using egr blockoffs. whats advantage/disadvantage of that or reasoning

Thanks, I was thinking about painting manifold with high temp ceramic paint. I think it will help displace heat

My EGR had failed and I didn't want to pay to replace it. I just put a block off plate between it and the valve. If your EGR is working properly there isn't much of a benefit of using a block off plate. The only downside is the exhaust gas is recycled making the intake get dirty quicker, but it takes so long it's barely a benefit if you ever do maintenance on your car anyway. If you do block off the EGR you have to worry about capping off the lines, and that has been a huge pain in the ass in my experience. I've used all kinds of glues and different things to try to keeps the caps on, but they eventually come off under boost. I usually buy fairly undersized ones that don't want to go on in the first place so I know it's a tight fit. The last time I did it I used hair spray and it has been holding fine with 15 pounds of boost for about 2 years. Personally I think blocking off the EGR is stupid... as long as it's functioning.

One thing to not do in the DSM crowd is follow what other people are doing. You will notice most people's cars on here are constantly broken and they "know" what they are doing, regardless of the fact that they have done zero research and only followed what someone else said. I actually research what I am about to do on my car and in the seven years I have owned it I have only had fairly minor problems and my longest downtime was the week it took for English Racing to rebuild my transmission. No matter how many people are doing the same thing on here, do your research and make sure it just isn't simply people spreading misinformation. Bad advice is VERY common on this forum.

Of course people with moderator or wiseman tags are very knowledgeable and are most likely correct with the information they offer you, but they can be wrong at times. It will save you a lot of headaches to simply verify the information you are given. If no one is willing to offer proof as to why they are right, they are likely wrong.

If you are considering blocking it off I'd at least start here http://www.tuneruniversity.com/blog/2012/05/dont-block-or-remove-the-egr-valve-its-saving-you-money/ and after that some Googling around and making a more educated decision would be your best bet.
