I am in the process of buying another DSM after many years out of the game, and I had heard of people using evo 8 ecus in a 2g. Now I have read the vfaq on how to set it up.

But basically I would like to know, which is better? Should I look into getting an evo 8 ecu? Ive seen them on ebay for cheap. with that all I would need is a tactrix cable. Seems like price wise evo 8 ecu wins out. But feature wise, is this a clear winner? About even, or should I just get a 95 EEPROM ECU and DSM Link?

Its been so long since I touched tuning software that wasn't Megasquirt Pro 3 for the miata. Which is stupidly easy to dial in I have no idea where to start anymore.

If you want easy, almost every one will say get ecmlink. I, myself have never used ecmlink. Plenty of friends have shown me, and I've seen enough videos to know, its way easier than ecuflash.

I'm currently using ecuflash with ceddymods and all that. It's fine for me, and I really enjoy it, but it does come with a bit of learning curve. But there are also videos to help with learning how to use it. So far, it hasn't been too bad.

Just depends on what your goals are with the car. The Evo ecu has plenty of options so does the 2g black box flashable ecu. I am currently using dsm link and it might be more $$$ but well worth it if your going e85. It has the ethenol sensor that can adjust min max octane maps and timing maps.

I have used both ceddy mods on a dsm and tephra on my evo. Ecuflash was very helpful at making minor changes and upgrades, But Iam switching to ECMLink because Iam looking to make 600+ and have the help of the ecmlink base tune matching mods installed and the forums over at ecmlink if I run into questions.

I have been using ecuflash for a few weeks, and I am not big into computer/coding stuff at all. With that said, I found it to be easier than I first thought. I am running T28, evo560cc, all supporting mods. ECUflash, at the simple level, will allow you to tune injector scalling, dead time latency, fuel at idle, a/f-tables, and maf-smothing. As you learn more, you will be able to go beyond these simple parameters to more advanced methods. This is all doable with moderate computer skills. However, I did just brick my first blackbox ecu, but it had to do with me adding in more coding on top of ceddymods, which I found out later I didn't need to do, also there might have been an issue with the reflash voltage. Over all, ECUflash is a lot cheaper, but its also harder to learn and easier to screw up, and you really need to pay attention to your voltage and openport connection when you re-write(flash) the ecu. I have never used ECMLink, but I hear it is amazing, I just cant afford it at the moment :(.

I am planning on switching over to Speed Density as soon as possible, as I now have about 4 years of experience running a Miata 1.8l on SD with minimal issues. I only ever had to retune the car twice in 4 years. Of course I didn't mess with the turbo setup any.

I am looking at ECM link, and that seems to be quite a bit easier in ECM Link. So I will probably go that route, I just thought at this point with custom roms available, H8/Evo8 ecus might be doing bigger and better things.
