Ok. Guys so my clutch is toast and I haven't had to buy a clutch in about 7 years...I'm just curious what everyone is using for their clutches these days I always used ACT's but I was thinking of going a diff route this time my HP goal are gonna be atleast 500 so I want something that's gonna hold up but not that's junk. So what is everyone using when it comes to your clutches these days?...and I'm looking for some reliability too and solid disk arnt an issue for me I kno they have sprung 6 puck disk now but never went that route and everytime I had a clutch with springs on the friction disk I would always break springs....so I'm just looking for a little bit of input guys lemme kno and shoot me some options guys.....thanks a lot!!!

Am I. Kind of really on a budget because I'm waiting on a retro disability payment for 11k but that won't be for atleast 2 months and I need a clutch now I was thinking of going with one of those XTD's from eBay just for the time being till I can get my money and get a twin disk setup...I was looking at the stage 3 and stage 4 but I'm leaning more towards the stage 4 with the un spring disk....here is one of them.....

Yea I'm in a really tight budget right now as I'm on medical disability and my claim is in limbo so I really don't have any income that's why I was thinking of just putting one of those XTD's in it for the time being until I get my 11,000 check from disability then I'll buy what I want and then throw it in after I get a full stGe 2 tranny rebuild pretty much just need something so I can drive the car and get from point A to point B not looking to do anything crazy with it

500 HP and budget should not be in the same sentence. Go with a proven clutch kit and do it right once, not some $100 eBay special that will need to be replaced again.

Good luck trusting that thing to not explode and scatter 7k+ rpm worth of clutch material everywhere.

I am planing om running 600hp or so on my new setup and a bought a spec 3+ solid sprung disk my last cluch was a south bend presser plate and act 6 puck unsprung disk well I went through one tranny and striped the spline's on the disk I would not go unsprung but that's my opinion I bought my new clutch lightly used for $200 off here in the classifieds a used good cluch will be better then a cheap junk one

I only plan on having like that XTD clutch in for about 2-3 moths when I get my 11k and my new built engine then I'll go with a twin disk setup just need something to get me through for 2-3 months then I'll send the trans out for a stage 2 rebuild and do a twin disk setup but just need something kind of cheap that will hold up for a couple months

Will be interesting to see if your spec holds that LOL. Just cruising for 2-3 months should be a fun clutch. Will work just fine I suppose. I had the 3+ and it started slipping after 6-7 passes on my gst. This was with a maxed out s16g, cutting low 1.7 60'. I'd stick with south bend. But either way make sure you media blast the flywheel and pp. It really helps things mesh. ;) oh and don't use a aluminum flywheel, acts the way to go. You shouldn't have any problem cruising till your upgrades.

South bend clutch from tmzperformance. At those power levels you need to suck it up and get something that will work like you want it to work. Dont buy a trash clutch and replace it. Get a bus pass and save up for the parts you need.

ALOT of people have run the XTD stage 4 with awesome results, and many have gone deep into the 11's. Don't assume everything sold on ebay is junk.

I think what he is saying is that go with something that's proven to LAST. When I first started out of was a big ebay xtd clutch person but over the course of time I got tired of the same common issues. Yeah It would hold the power for an event but would eventually and often,
  1. springs would pop out
  2. friction material would break up and chunks would be mission from the pucks
  3. once I sheared the spline off one
  4. I got tired of pull the danggum transmission (determining factor to go with something better)
TMZ southbend had been more than good to my setup with longevity!

I ran a comp stage 4 sprung 6 puck. Wore it out in like 10K miles with no spring issues. Rated for 600 ft lbs. Drove it daily. Great clutch and going to get another one. Just remember when you start getting into the heavy pressure plate clutches you will go through a couple slave cylinders during the life of the clutch.

Yea guys I just need something that will hold up for atleast 3 months and I'm not looking to do anything crazy in that time period....and my mods are just a FMIC, ported 14b, full 3in exhaust, punishment o2 housing with a tial external gate, AFPR, a tubular manifold, and I have V3 ECM link and s PLX wbo2....but like I said I'm not going crazy in the next few months just need it to hold up till then and I should have my built engine back by then also....I should deff go with a sprung disk tho correct guys?

These are the clutches I was looking at, and just to use and hold up for about 2-3 months. The first one is a stage 2 sprung street disk and the second one is a stage 3 sprung 6 puck disk and it's only like $5 more than the stage 2 with the street disk

And this is the stage 3 with the 6 puck sprung disk

Yeah, I ran 10's on a XTD stage 4, I didn't have any of those problems. I've never seen a spring pop out, nor did I strip splines on a solid disc. They typically last a season of hard abuse. I'm talking hot lapping it at the track about every weekend all summer long. It's a great clutch for the money. f you have issues with them it's likely installer error. The only reason I don't have them in my car now if 600+whp and 4 slicks is too much for them.

I understand what you are saying and I've seen a number of people who have had great results with the XTD clutches...I'm just debating on going with the sprung solid disk or if I should spend the extra 3 bucks and go with the sprung 6 puck disk and the pressure plate that is a little heavier
