I installed a southbend stage 2 clutch on my 2g eclipse and it engages right off the floor, talking half an inch. Is this normal for performance clutches? I'm not saying it's bad but I was just wondering if that's what its supposed to do.

Mine is doing the same, but I just have an exedy clutch six spring. I know mine is dragging by holding the clutch and trying to 7,000 rpm. If it rolls forward the clutch is dragging. Saw this on stm I believe...or some other dsm site

Out of curiosity and not meaning to steal the thread. XD but what do I do if my pedal is already adjusted as far as it can? Master cylinder should be fine. Slave is new.

Clutch drag can be caused by almost every component in the clutch assembly. Bad pilot bearing, warped pp/fw/clutch disk. We had a 1984 Toyota Celica Supra come in recently and it had clutch drag from the clutch not being aligned properly when the customer had done it himself on his driveway.

I dont see how this is possible. Alignment should only keep you from stabbing the trans. Assuming you could stab a trans with clutch misaligned it would straighten up the first time you pressed the pedal.

As for max travel if youre adjusted all the way and it still drags then you have either worn fork, ball, pedal, master, slave, wrong flywheel step or a combination of any of those. Worn pedal is comon on 1g. Bad flywheel step is also common because nobody checks or they check it incorrectly.

My fork was fine last time I compared it to a newer one I got from another trans, ball looked newish(not counting surface scratches since they were tiny) but could you explain flywheel step?

To the OP, if you had not figured it out by now you must do certain things before installing a clutch. flywheel step is critical. let's assume yours is correct. at least try and make adjustments. if you've already done so then reread my previous post. BTW for anybody reading this do not measure the flywheel with a caliper. use a depth mic. the machine shop you use should have one. They should also have no problem measuring in front of you. You did use the machine shop right?
