I have always hard loud lifter tick ever since I bought the car about a year ago. Its a 1997 talon tsi with 205k. And I am sure its causing phantom knock. Ever since I went to a evoflash and evoscan, I have noticed that I sit at around 40 counts of knock at idle when the lifterts are ticking. Also, I have changed out the oem knock sensor with a brand new one, this helped somewhat, but the lifters are so damned loud.

From what I have seen, people change the lifters out to the third generation eclipser lifters with larger oil feed holes. Before I begin the process of changing over to 3g lifters, I want to check to see if there are any better options? Are there any better after market type lifters that have been ported for the 2g dsm cars, or, are the 3g lifters the best I can get? Also, how are is the job of changing them out, can I leave the head on the car and change them?

I have found these lifters https://www.maperformance.com/produ...ifters-for-all-4g63-applications-complete-set . But, are they actually better than stock 3g lifters, I personal just want the best option, I am SICK of lifter tick.

Thanks for the help!

From doing a cylinder head rebuild. I personally don't think you can do it without having to retune the engine since the cam shafts hold down the rockers...though you might be able to do it by getting the cam the cam shaft high enough to slip out the rockers, but wait for some one to confirm what I just said. Lol

you can remove the lifters without remove the head or cam caps. There's a tool that pushes down on the spring and you can remove the rocker. And once that's off you can pull the lifter off

I am surprised no one has pointed it out that the "3g" lifter are not from the 3rd generation eclipse as you said in your original post. Do not go and by lifter for the 3rd generation eclipse as they won't work. The 3g lifters are just revised lifters that are the 3rd generation of lifters for the 4g63.
