North Pole, Alaska
Howdy everyone. I just picked up this 1991 gsx last week for 800$. It's in pretty rough shape. I'm hoping to get some help from other members. I'm also capable of doing research when the answers are already out there(i've been on their forums before)

Anyways I live up in North pole alaska its. Gonna try and fix this car up a little at least mechanically. Not very worried about cosmetics yet.

The previous over of the car had decided to cut several plugs off the harnesses and I think it is missing several sensors. The car runs good idling but won't rev past about 3000 rpm normally. Every now and then it will run good and build descent boost.

I attached a few of the pictures of the harnesses that are not attached to anything if anyone knows what they go to it would help. The empty sensor is on the thermostat housing. I imagine it is for the coolant temp guage because the gauage doesn't work. But the fan turns on so I'm not sure.

Welcome bro. Those are for coolant temp sensor for ecu and gauge. And I think one is for the a/c. You definetly need the sensor for the ecu or it won't like it. Is the a/c deleted? The other 2 plugs look like left over a/c stuff. Any check engine light?

I'm pretty sure the ecu is getting the signal from the upper sensor because the fan turns on and off when it feels like it should based on strictly hand fell on rad. And the a.c. has been deleted. Didn't even think of that thank you so much. Shed the light LOL. There are a few more that I found also

As for engine light is comes on for a few randomly and then goes out I haven't been driving it since I picked it up as it has a pretty bad oil leak and I believe the timing is off. So I haven't wanted to blow it up. Can I pull codes with a rental obd1 on this car? Not sure if it needs to be a dealer tool.

The one is near the firewall drivers side. The other is plugged into the harness but I'm confident it should be attached to a boost or vac line LOL.

First pic is boost solinoid and doesn't have to be hooked up. How is the vac lines ran off the wastegate? The other plug not sure could be fuel solinoid which is probably deleted as you have a afpr, or for a/c compressor. The fan has a switch on the bottom of the radiator so you still could be missing the ecu's temp sensor. Which is important might be why you can't rev over 3k. As for the timing you can check it and see if it's off or not. I would do a timing job with oem parts and change all the seals you can while its out. Also you can use a obd1 scanner or there's a way to do it without. You basically jump the port and it will flash the cel then you just read the number of flashes and get the code. Scanner would be easier of course.

Yeah after a search I'm deffintly missing the ecu temp sensor. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I might have a question about the wiring to the temp sensor but I have a spare wiring harness so I'll check that out first.

Good ole North Pole. My brother was stationed there for a while, and I bet I've been to that hockey arena in your pic. Hope you like -20 degrees :)

That's an ice rink in Albuquerque nm. That's where I rescently moved from. Cold doesn't bother me to terribly but I only spent half a winter her so far.

I will deffintly make sure to get the right on and test it on the stove first with the multimeter.

Replaced plugs and wires. Check the timing and get it in the ball park. Still shuts off at 3000 rpm when out of gear. I can hear a realy pop on and off in the center of the councle.

Also does anyone know the color of the wires for the temp sensor. I tried wires that were lose near it with no luck.

Got a new temp sensor for the ecu and the current one shot full ol. Hopefully that will help it run better.

Pulled the ecu cover and everything look good in there no expanded caps or broken sodiers.

Also found the o2 wire hacked up at the ecu Gonna try and rewire the o2 sensor.

Motor is currently coming out. For new seals, harness cleanup/replacment. and engine bay cleaning.
