Why is it so hard to find honest shops to deal with? I sent parts out on a quoted 2-3 day turn around that was 2 weeks ago. The shop wont answer their phone, voicemail full, and wont answer emails. I thought id support a "reputable" local business and got screwed again.

If you ever wonder why people dont buy american its because of stuff like this.

Sorry for the rant, just very frustrated. The writing was on the wall and i ignored my better judgement and am paying for it now.

Well I cant say that its the reason people dont buy American anymore ...... I can say that its getting harder to find quality over quantity ran shops. Although the community here usually has good leads on proper shops. I do feel your pain though which is some of the reason I try to be a DIY'er unless tools dictate otherwise.

Might I inquire to what your were trying to have done ...

Its business in general. No one takes the time to do things properly or to follow through anymore. You have to manage them if you want things done right or just do it yourself unfortunately.

I usually go by referral just like anything else you need health ,legal or business wise. Better odds at getting what you need done right. I've been through hell with my first dsm years back just taking my car to places on a whim, including legal matters without referal. Can cost you thousands in wasted money.
You can also follow certain guys on the forum and see if they know what they are talking about which has led to my cars success.

I wonder how a shop can be "reputable" if you saw the writing on the wall and your better judgement still was telling you to stay away..?
Was "reputable" meaning referrals were good (following ceedawg's reply) but you saw clues that would prove otherwise?

Yeah i just mean the service is gone. Taking care of the customer is a thing of the past i guess. Like gas station attendants. Shaking someones hand and knowing their word means something.

Now its all online, you deal with what you get. If you dont like it, go somewhere else. Thats the typical response anymore. Or they transfer you to some tech support group in india.

I mean you pay for a quality product like snap on, then get hassled over the warranty you paid for. While you can buy some chinese junk from harbor freight for a fraction of the cost, it probably last just about as long, then if it breaks take it back. No worries. Ive never been hassled about returning something to harbor freight.

I dont want to turn this into a american vs foreign product quality debate. Im just getting at the quality of service is gone in america in general.

Yeah its sad isnt it?

As do i, i base most purchases from reviews. Like you said it certainly betters the odds. I've never had an issue with say newegg purchases using that method. But a few years ago i had a furnace installed and duct work replaced from what was supposed to be the unanimous "best installers" in the area. Long story short, had to sue them to finish the contract after i paid in advance. The process took two years.

Theres tons of other examples, but whenever im dealing with a local service it is always a hassle. Following the advice of forum members is what got me in trouble this time LOL.

The forum members advice is what got me in trouble this time. This shop seems to have a pretty unanimously positive reputation here on this site.

The writing on the wall was when i tried calling and emailing them before i sent the parts out. I tried for two weeks to get a hold of him, wouldn't answer the phone, voicemail full, no response through emails. For two weeks. I knew then that i shouldn't send it out, but i took the advice of forum members here and when i finally got a response (through email no less) i sent the parts out.

Now he did quote me a 2-3 day turn around. That with the forum's unanimous support of this shop i figured the communication issues would be fine.

Another friday goes by, multiple call attempts made, still no answer. They're closed sat-mon, so i cant call again til tuesday. Guess i'll have to wait yet another week for him to start my 2-3 day turn around parts.

Im getting the feeling that this guy is going to make me show up with the police to get my shit back.

Damn that sucks. Hope it wasn't nothing super needed. Was it a vendor or just a small shop that the forum recommend? Either way I hope you get your parts back asap.
They're listed under vendors and thanks i hope this doesnt drag on too long. The car isnt my DD or anything, but every delay sets the car back that much further. I was waiting to install these parts and ensure everything was ok before i started the speed density conversion and install the AEM EMS.

hey I just saw this I just wanna say we have some of the best dsm shops here in Michigan Strictly Performance Motorsports In Kalamazoo is sick. Wayland speed in paw paw mi I hear is realy good for dsms to I guess they have a real good tunner. Both have dynos. THE INFAMOUS dsm graveryard is also right here in Kalamazoo mi. Boostin in chicgo and I'm pretty sure busher is right in ohio Midwest dms seen is pretty big. ive ben to dsm graveyard in person delt w them multiple times, its in the straight hood stay away!! strictly is one of the most bad ass shops ive ben in and its right on the main rd by the mall. u cant miss it theres always a buncha subys, dsm and crazy turbo stuff out front.

For the most part people who go to shops have no knowledge of how to fix issues. Shops know that and use that to their advantage. In most cases they just quick-fix things and hope customer does not notice, while in others they set the job aside and tell the customer that "it would take longer than anticipated to fix it" thinking that nobody would want to get their car back while it is taken apart. And more desperate the car owner seems, more expensive the repair will be.

"If you want things to be done well, do them yourself."

Did you check their BBB rating before going to this shop just curious?
No i didnt, sadly i went purely off the reputation based on members here on tuners.

Any luck? It's now Thursday

I was finally able to contact them after numerous calls and emails. It sounds as if i should have my stuff back this week. I can guarantee I will open a paypayl dispute and get my money back if not.

Thanks, ive heard of strictly before. I see their tent at shootout every year. Waylend seems to be mostly evo stuff? Never heard of those guys before. Boostin is legit and thats who i should have sent my stuff to and almost did. But thanks for that, i visit kzoo somewhat often as i have family out that way.

Exactly.

So again after numerous calls and email attempts i finally got through to someone. They said on april 28th that they will send the parts out and that i can expect them any day. That was nearly two weeks ago, ive contacted ups, usps, and fedx and there are no packages in route to my address.

What a bunch of dishonest low lifes. I feel that i've been more than patient with this whole matter.

I've now contacted my lawyer and taking the necessary steps to get this resolved. Its upsetting that is has to go this far over something so simple.

For anyone wondering who it is, just PM me. If i say the shops name in this thread it will be deleted.

You know, if they would have just manned up from the beginning then they'd have there self a satisfied customer, but to not answer the phone for a month after having my parts is dishonest. Then to lie about it being finished is dishonest. Then to lie about the parts being sent out, and leave me waiting two weeks for a package to show up that was never sent out is down right low.

All they had to do is say "Hey we're backed up, your parts are 10th in line and we'll keep you updated." Answer their phones, or heaven forbid call me to update me. Three months now on a 2-3 day turn around.

I dont care what kind of work they do at this point. If this is how they operate then they dont deserve to be in business.

Sorry to hear man, that would piss me off greatly to have to deal with bs like you have. Could you shoot me a PM to give me the scoop so I can steer clear in the future?

Right? I mean i dont feel like im out of line in being upset with their practices. Im usually a very easy going guy, but stuff like this gets to you after a while. Its not how id run a shop and its not what i would expect from what was supposed to be a reputable shop. And you have a PM.

With the fading of the dsm brand you are going to find more and more shops scamming you just got to be careful. Since you are in Michigan and the shop is local you just may want to drive over and knock on their door and see what's up because your chances of hitting the power ball is greater than your chances of getting some of these shops on the phone and that is the honest truth!
