I know the evo engines are newer versions of the 4g63 which is commonly swapped into 2g eclipses but I was wondering if anyone knew if the newer evo engines could be swapped with as much ease as the 1g 4g63 engines are. Or if there are a few minor changes that I can work around. Or if you think i should just stick to buying an old 4g63 with 60000 miles or so on it. Im planning on putting in a turbo upwards of 400HP so i need an engine that can handle the load. I know those engines have stood the test of time and I know people that have experience with them so thats why I am leaning toward the 4g63. Any comments are welcome.

Thanks,
Ryan

Let's just say it would be very expensive. And I believe this question has been asked before. I think Evo engines are better left in Evos.

:nono: I actually did a lotta researh in swapping the evo into a 2g, its possible but not worth the hassle. I agree that evo motors should be left in evos.

Here is probably a very good solution: Get a 6 bolt and get it built. for less than 3 thousand dollars you wll have a stronger then stock evo motor, and you wont have any surprises. If you need any help with the 6 bolt swap rre has a very good article on that. Thats what I used and it was very helpful.

Good luck!

Awesome. I love you guys. Thanks for the responses. Any more comments would be wonderful. Im probably going to swap the 4g63 in after its ported and polished, and all new cams, pulleys, belts, pistons, ect. I have another question. I know 2g's have crankwalk problems but I also heard 1g's have it too but not as bad. Is there any way around this? Im am getting a tanny swap too probably a TRE with LSD. Should I do anything special to prevent crankwalk or is it just inevitable?

Forget the nay sayers.. if you got a 420a and want to go turbo check this out

That was started over a year ago and its not done yet :notgood: It is possible, there are some guys in Taiwan or something that have done it and its a more feasible swap for a 420a than the 6/7 bolts from a 1g/2g but the cost of an EVO VIII engine here makes it not worth it.

No one ever said it was impossible. It's just too damn impractical to do.

Um... I'm surprised that no one has said this yet.
But your going to have a very hard time putting ANY 4g63 into a 420a platform,
regardless if it is out of an EVO or a 1g or 2g Eclipse.
Both have been done before though, so it is not impossible.
Here is a link to one of the better threads on doing the EVO swap.
420a to Evo 8 swap - DSM Forums: Mitsubishi Eclipse, Plymouth Laser, and Eagle Talon Forum: DSMtalk.com
I'm sure that there are threads on swapping a 4g63 from a DSM too,
heck I've even seen people who have swapped 4g63's into Avenger's.
But just because something is possible doesn't make it plausible.
If it is an absolute must it seems like the EVO 8 would be a better choice,
because the transmission is on the right side.
:laser:

You know, if you have any v8's layin around you might want to try this mod. It's a 2gnt RS.

V8+Megasquirt+RWD conversion in a 2gnt = shocker at the track. Look though his videos. It Runs

YouTube - Mitsubishi eclipse v8

If only this dude did a write up....that's all people would be talking about. I'm sure you would have better luck getting one of these in then a evo engine.

In my opinion, the people that have put EVO VIII engines or V8s in a 2g or a 4g63 in an RX-7 didn't come on here and ask if its possible they did it and then came on here and showed us what they did. I think that if you have to ask its probably above your skill level. I think most of the people that come on here asking these kind of questions are expecting to be directed to a write up and thinking its going to be something simple like some kind of vtec swap in a honda or something. :beatentodeath:

Where's the trash can, I gotta throw this thread in there it's starting to stink LOL

I do agree, if you've come on this forum and ask how to swap an evo engine into your Eclipse it's probably way above your skill level. While I've been told it's easier to swap into the 2GNT because the engine sits on the same side (but you'll still need to fab up your own mounts anyways) and you reuse the transmission from the 420a (why would you I don't know it's just what I've read) and the ecu from a 4g63 equipped DSM with a piggyback. Sounds like way to much work for the end result. But hey, do whatever you want. :D

anything is possible with enough money, but if your like most people your working on a budget, what is your budget?

I am doing a evolution swap and awd as well it not hard.
This is a jdm evolution 4 with the evolution 4 tranny and transfer case from evolution 4 with a evo 5 ecu
Just need help in the wiring part to understand a few things. and it drop right in..
I got the whole swap for 1500.

I swear there is at least one post a week on this subject. Im assuming Forza has everyone wanting and wishing.
The only engine you should go for is the evo 9 engine for the MIVEC
But if your racing and keeping it in high rpm then it wouldn't make a difference.
the cost and work to put into it. You probably wished you just bought an evo.
