Im wonderin about swapping a 2.4 into a 98 gs 420a.... any input would be appreciated! Or any way to get more power out of the 2.0 without goin turbo...

Are you refering to a srt 2.4 or a 4g64 2.4 if you talking the srt im not sure but that should be a dirrect swap but you would need tuning options and exhaust to do the turbo and if you intend to just say no to the turbo then exhaust and what not would be all screwed up being its opposite side of the head and being a previously turboed engine it has lower compression pistons

Now if your thinking the 4g64 its tons of work to make it work not sure if it would be a lot of work using the 4g64 they use in the evos as they sit on the same side

It would be a non turbo swap.. i wasnt sure if the srt, stratus, or avenger 2.4 would bolt up and or make a difference. I think the first gens you can combine certain parts on the 2.0 and 2.4 and create a pretty nasty monster... just not sure bout the 420a

so you are considering all 2.4l options i would say the srt motor is a no go because, it is a turbo engine and that isnt what you are looking for (why do you not want a turbo). The srt as i stated above will have lower compression than the other 2.4l engines so that will mean less power than just the standard 2.4l. To me it seems that your wanting a lot from nothing fast naturally aspirated cars are not 4 cylinders almost never do you see that, has it been done yes but with tons of money wrapped up into it. I havent looked at the numbers but a 420 vs the chrysler 2.4 your not going to gain anything worth mentioning prolly almost the same amount of hp output but would gain torque obviously because you added .4l.

im sure you have heard of the phrase "there is no replacement for displacement". Well that is not true a turbo is the reason that isnt true. Im not 100% on the numbers on how it works but i think its something like 13-14 psi on a 2.0l engine is like have a 4.0l engine that is naturally aspirated. Im sure someone will chime in that knows the science behind that theory as ive read it somewhere before but i dont remember where. LOL

I think there is a bracket behind the engine that is different. if you do go with a 2.4, go with the 420a head if you eventually plan to turbo it. no dense having the turbo on the back of the engine.

Someone has actually put a 3.0 V6 auto from a 3 Gen Eclipse in a 420a car. As a matter of fact, the build and the selling of the car were both on youtube. So it can be done. the question is how much are you willing to do to do it?

I've wanted to get a gs/rs and building a 6g72 twin turbo and swapping it in. never bad to be unique and different

That's basically a galant VR4. The galant VR4 that they did not import to the states.

Wikipedia Galant VR-4. It was another bad beast mitsubishi, in there infinite wisdom, didn't import into the states. Ironically you will see a lot of styling cues from that car in the chrysler line (Avenger, Sebring, and DSM).

Thanx for the input guys! I choose not to turbo because i race in a class that the car has to be naturally aspirated! Im not sure what all it requires but building a stroked 420a is another option i have been tossing around. Im kinda new to the dsm scene so not sure about alot of things

feel free to text or pm me, im at a shop in wv and i have a ton of dsm/mitsu experience, especially in the aftermarket world,

I'm looking to go the same route but I am wanting to turbo. The 2gnt post is a lot of good information.

Now if your thinking the 4g64 its tons of work to make it work not sure if it would be a lot of work using the 4g64 they use in the evos as they sit on the same side
It's not tons of work to make a 4g64 fit. Follow Miguel DSMs youtube video. 3/4 mounts are the same 420a manual mounts. The trans mount has to move 6 inches though. This is also true with the evo 4g63, the hyundai dual cam 4g64, and the sohc 4g64. Using stock 3g axles with a 3g 4g64 manual trans. Wiring is the hard part, unless they go standalone
