Stock.

I have had a generic fart can, hollowed out stock can, HKS axle back, straight pipe, straight pipe with a resonated tip all these are seriously dam quiet.
I only hear a slight rumble at idle and sounds like a lot of air rushing out when I accelerate.
I don't see how you guys get such loud obnoxious exhaust...I've tried!

My current set up is a generic dual outlet muffler on a 2.25 axle back pipe. Looks near stock and has a nice rumble, quiet during acceleration but is a bit loud on the highway.

After all the money and time spent. I still think stock is best. Its quiet and I can hear the radio.
Lucky for me I can go back to stock in 10 minutes.

Stock is best if you want to keep your car stock and quiet, but it will need to be changed if you start upgrading the car to get the best gains.

Just add a downpipe & remove the cat, keep the stock muffler. You'll see some gains and it'll be quiet.
Bad advice imo. there is little point in adding a 2.5"-3" downpipe and then have the exhaust bottle neck down to a stock muffler after it has cooled and expanded. If anything, an exhaust system should increase in size as it moves to the rear of the car.

Thanks that's probably what I will do. Are there any downpipes that you recommend ?

Yes:

Not if he's going for a sleeper setup.

People see that stock muffler and they think the car is stock, then they get smoked.

That's a lot of fun, trust me.

Well if sleeper is what he's going for than of course he will have to give up some performance. However another good option would be to run a cutout. Back in the days one of my buddies ran a 3" turbo-back with a stock muffler. He had an electric cutout right before the muffler and it worked nicely. from Dr. Jekyll to Mr. Hyde with the push of a button.

I don't mind the sound of my Megan TBE. Good burble at idle and great sound at high RPMs. I personally feel that a "fart can" looking exhaust is the stereotype for our cars and not hated on quite as much these days. I also don't mind people assuming I am a "ricer" with nothing to back up the grapefruit shooter, then reminding them they are wrong when the hear the 2-step.

As far as losses, you create a large amount of back pressure (flow restriction) with the stock exhaust. Less flow means less power, slower turbo spools, and less efficiency. You don't really need the "extra" back pressure because the turbo creates plenty for the motor on its own.

No need for a fart can :)

This is another thread where there is no "right" answer, the exhaust that is currently on my car (2.75 all the way back with a single resonator) I LOVE at car shows, and the track cause nobody even wonders what might be hiding under the hood, it really burbles and gargles at you, but when I'm driving through a town at night and I pass a cop? It's just borderline. I'm reverting back to my old exhaust simply because my car is a DD.. its not practical.. and I have an external wastegate if I feel like being loud.

It all boils down to you. As mentioned before thermal and apexi will get you a good sound, but it might not be the right sound for you.
