I have a 420A motor. Building a Custom kit and will be using Megasquirt as my tuning. As of right now I am still in the process of collecting parts and have a few questions in regards to injector sizing and MS.

First for MS. I see build it yourself kits for MS2 on ebay for under $300. I know I need to solder it together and LITERALLY build it my self. Has anyone actually done this and is it cost effective to do this compared to a prebuilt unit? I do have confidence in my soldering capabilities. If not what is a better option?

Second for MS. I have no knowledge in actually tuning a car. I should be able to install MS into the car before actually installing my turbo setup correct(give me time to learn the tuning side of things while waiting for paychecks and parts)? Tune it on stock platform(maybe with the new injectors first) then re-tune it with turbo.

Now for my question with injectors. Im setting my goal for now for 250whp. Will 550cc EVO injectors work on a 420A(tuned of course)?

I built my MS3 and had a blast doing it. Just take your time, read and follow the manual.

Also avoid eBay sometimes they are not official licensed ms units. Like everything else there are copy cats out there. Diyautotune.com sells the kits. My best advice is to go with the ms3. It gives you some more options upfront and allows for cheaper expansion in the future with the ms3x card. It is also very cost effective to build it yourself.

I built and installed my ms unit before I went turbo (still finishing the turbo swap but should be done in a few weeks). It was the best thing I did. It allowed me to learn it while still having a buffer zone of an NA car being easier to tune. Symtech labs is no longer in business but their website is still up. Go on there and grab the stock tune for the MS unit your getting. That's a good starting point tune wise.

If the evo injectors are low impedance, I believe they are, you will need to look into it on the ms side and see what some users have done to get them to work. I know a lot of people complained about them not working as good as high impedance injectors.

I run FIC 900s and installed them about a year ago and have been running them while I was non turbo still. Ms was able to keep them in check and I had no over fueling issues. I also run a GM ethanol sensor into the ms3x card and run e85.

In my opinion and experience with it, megasquirt is one of the most versatile and under rated standalone ecus out there.

This is exactly what I wanted to hear. I will be getting ms3 in a few checks now. What about your harness? Did you connect everything by the ecu or is it random? Are you running standalone or piggyback?

I have done it both ways sort of. The first time installing my ms I ran the ms wire harness to the ecu and tied in what I needed to. At that point basically the stock ecu powered the sensors, coil pack and fuel injectors but the ms was controlling what they were doing.

After that I did a full wire tuck and went complete stand alone. The stock ecu has been out of my car for over a year and I have had zero issues and zero regrets. My stock gauges still work too. Really the only one that gets a signal from the ecu is the tach which the ms3x unit can output. Working on a digital dash now using a 7" screen and a raspberry pi 3.

My build profile is full of wire tuck pics, ms settings for various odds and ends. I also have a write up in the 420a section for using Audi coil pack to run full sequential.

Below are a couple pics of my bay. After the wire tuck and then the turbo setup. Just waiting on my downpipe to get back from ceramic coating.

I read your whole build log after I posted earlier. Amazing... just amazing... I love the idea of a digital dash but can ms actually output all the needed data to the raspi?

If your on Facebook look up Pat's projects. He has a lot of the details on it. Tunerstudio runs on Windows, Mac and Linux. Linux is what the pi runs on.
