Went to pull the head off of my 2g eclipse and found a broken head stud. Roughly has about an inch sticking out from the block. The po said he did a headgasket change right before i bought the car. But since buying the car its been nothing but a headache. The po really messed this car up. So now i need some real input on how to remove this stud. No threads are showing. Its almost like the guy snapped it trying to take the head off for hg change. Thanks for the help

They snapped the head bolt trying to take the head off to change the headgasket

I can take pics when i get home. But the head is off of the engine. Its not broken flush. There is about 1 1/2 inches left of the stud sticking out of the block.

you could try a stud remover. if that doesnt work you could get a 12point socket (not sure what size, probably 10mm or 11mm) and hammer it onto the shaft of the bolt, and then back it out with a ratchet.

I tried and the broken stud didnt want to budge. And i didnt want to risk snapping it flush with the block. I thought about trying to weld on a nut and turn it that way but i dont want to damage the block

is there enough good threads showing to put 2 nuts on then sinch them together an turn the bottom one off, they will lock together and it should turn the stud out., that way there is no chance of warping the block using a welder.

There's no threads to get nuts on. It's snapped off in the middle.

Like mentioned before op, pb blaster and one of the aformentioned stud extractors should get it put for you.
Is this. A stock headbolt or an arp stud?
