Hello to all, any help or information you have to share is appreciated. I have searched around and cannot find anything similar to what I am experiencing. I have two issues I am wanting to figure out and have attempted to without definite answers. Car is a 1990 Talon TSi awd, manual trans.

1.) Sometimes when coming to a quick stop (example: a light turns yellow and I stop quicker than average... the car will stall, it restarts fine, however it does this randomly.) Not sure if it is the fact that I have a lighter chromoly flywheel? It does not do this all the time, I autocross and rallycross the car and it has not happened then. I thought it could be a possible vacuum issue, but there are no leaks. I have DSM link v3, no CEL comes on at the time of stalling, no codes thrown. Anyone have any ideas?

2.) I have a new thermostat, have not installed it yet. Wondering if that is what is causing this next issue. I had an issue with coolant/water bubbling out of my overflow tank, I have an evo 8 overflow tank installed. I topped off the coolant and that issue seemed to happen a couple of times more, then stopped after I added more premixed coolant whenever I would have the bubbling go on, could have been previous owner putting more water in than coolant? Not sure. Lately I have been experiencing some symptoms of thermostat issues, when it was colder out and I was warming the car up, it took forever to warm up. I would run the car 10-15 minutes and it would not be up to operating temp on the gauge, when I would turn the heat on during winter months it would take longer to heat up than the previous years winter it seemed like, also seemed like the heat would blow warmer when I was on the gas under load, as opposed to being at a light at idle where it would feel way less warm. My car has recently had the CEL get thrown from DSM link so I know its above my set temp. The gauge will go a little above middle at a light once in a while, now that it is getting warmer outside I have driven my car, it is centered or a little under the middle of the stock coolant temp gauge during driving, I park it say at a store, gone in for ten minutes and when I start the car up it is above the middle gauge again, but goes down again when moving at a normal speed down the road or when I turn the heat on to try to circulate the coolant. Never goes to the red or way over the middle, the furthest it has been was near 3/4 the way to the end of the gauge, never past the 3/4 mark. I usually shut the car off if I am at a red light and it starts to go up, drive and it solves the problem when moving. I have a true temp gauge I am going to install shortly on the new radiator hose, I already installed a new radiator cap. Fans seem to be working too, not sure what it is, my upper radiator hose is a little bigger than normal when hot, that is another thing being replaced too. Any ideas?

Thanks for the help, any is greatly appreciated.

The first issue, do you have the blow off valve recirculated back to the intake tube? At idle what does your vac gauge read?
The second issue, seems like when your saying bubbling at the reservoir that has nothing to do with the type of coolant your running. That means your coolant system is over heating, get your after market gauge installed and make sure your fan is coming on at operating temps.

Could the bubbling be exhaust gas in the coolant?
The only way there would be bubbling at the coolant filler neck is if you where doing a cylinder leak down test. which if that was the case the issue would be a blown head gasket. But in this case the bubbling was at the coolant reservoir which would indicate an over heating issue.

My BOV is recirculated, at idle I am reading 20 inHG, when I do a small rev it goes up to where boost reads and if I let go off the gas it goes to around 24 inHG and back to 20 inHG at idle again. I will try to get the gauge installed and see what the true temps are.

He would probably have bigger issues if combustion was making it into the coolant. but then again, head gaskets can fail in many different ways.

The car was only noticeably bubbling a couple of times, all of which were audible when I turned my car off, not sure if the exhaust gasses would run after the car was off for 10 minutes, I don't think it is head gasket related, just seems something that is minor/simple is wrong.

Lightweight flywheels can make your car stall sometimes. Try raising your idle a bit. Also make sure your biss screw is adjusted correctly and your isc motor works correctly.

The coolant bubbling is either headgasket or boiling. You need to properly bleed the cooling system and verify the thermostat opens and the fans come on. If that all checks out then your headgasket is prob starting to leak.
