Hey need a little help my tcu took a crap and kinda need one before spring gets here or i need a shift box but would prefer a tcu so i can have the option of auto shifting if anybody has one please let me know if you would like to sell it.

Ok guys really need some help here. I am pretty sure my TCU is bad, but I will list my problem anyway, trans is in limp mode (only 3rd and reverse). I connect an obd1 scan tool but could not get any communication to the tcu to pull codes, took out my tcu and could see some discoloration and seems to be leakage coming from the large capacitor. Now no communication could mean a bad fuse, which I pulled it seemed to look good but I replaced it anyway and still nothing. My question is does anyone else have any ideas and does anyone know where I can get my tcu rebuilt or buy another one (that works)? I am buying a shift box as well but am retaining the tcu for the automatic option, which one should I go with Roadsurge or Forced Four? Please Help I would like to drive my baby at some point this year. Thanks

Sounds like the capacitor leaked and killed the TCU. I've not had much luck repairing them once that has happened. On the ECU's the odds of repairing capacitor leakage is good but it seems that on the TCUs the leakage often causes the voltage regulator to fail and dump 12v on the +5v rail which blows the CPU and other chips.

Make sure that any replacement TCU has the cap changed before it causes problems.

Thanks for the info steve and good news was able to find a freshly rebuilt tcu for 50 bucks and she shifts fine. Now onto the shift box in a couple of weeks . Should i go with roadsurge or forced four?
