So I got the car 2 years ago as a gift for my 16th birthday. Did all the maintenance, timing belt, water pump, all fluids changed. I've had a lot of problems with my car: on my 4th alternator, 2nd turbo, 3rd water pump, and 4th shifter bracket. But I love my car so much I keep fixing it and going on. When I bought the car it had 128xxx miles. The mods the PO did were a Turbo XS boost controller and BOV, a no name cat back, and a new radio. Since I've had it I've added a 12 inch sub under the convertible top, changed all the cluster lights to red LEDs, replaced the convertible top, and put on a solid intake pipe and I have solid intercooler pipes but haven't installed them yet. Here are some pictures of "Spidey".

So not much to update. This year I've gone off to college so my time to work on the car has decreased exponentially. However I am home for spring break and on top of an oil and coolant change, I finally got around to a couple of small details that have been bothering me for a while. First off I pulled out all of my carpets and pressure washed them because it was obvious the PO didn't love this car as much as I do. Second major thing I finally got to do was plasti dip the trim around my windows and convertible top. The carpets didn't come as clean as I had hoped but I can't complain. The trim however turned out much better than I could have hoped. Carpet outside of car is before and inside car is after. If you look at the old pictures I posted, you can see how faded the trim around the top was.

So back to school for me. Before I left I stopped by the junkyard and found a 92 talon n/a. I grabbed the throttle body and valve cover. The throttle body I know I need the 2G TPS is there anything else I need to make that work? For the valve cover, is there any way to check to see if it has hairline cracks without putting it on the car? I want to paint it but I'd like to JB Weld it if it's cracked before I paint it.

Hey man I'm in BAMA too and I've owned a couple dsm cars I currently have a 2g GST as my GSX was stolen but I have done a complete build new stock crank rods pistons 60 trim turbonetics ext wastegate etc 400hp car. If you local to Birmingham you should come out and play with us sometime. I also know a great tuner that's fair priced. I have a lot of parts too feel free to reach out when you get a min.

I don't think there's anyway to check it for cracks without spending some cash at machine shop but these guys might have some tricks no telling..

Originally I'm from Huntsville, but I'm at UA for school. I'm not too far from Bham but I might come over some time. A tune up is actually on my to do list.

We're here & we got a import top ten started I'm adding 35 shot of NOS now to spool up this big turbo do you have dsmlink installed already? I have a new 50 trim t3/t4 still in the box and I'm about to pull my 880 injectors and go up I'm getting ready to go to
e-85 I don't drive mine daily just Friday and Saturday night I'm also pulling my intercooler and going to a water to air front mount.
We have a "2nd Saturday" meet in BHAM once a month that has a turnout of over 100 cars so let me know when your around and I'll give ya the info.

So went home for easter and again baby steps and little details were done. Cleaned floor mats and changed windshield washer squirters to the 3G fan squirters. A couple small problems I am having. 1) sometimes while accelerating my check engine light comes on, but when I let off the gas, it goes away. I do not have a logger, but I do have an OBD II reader. However since it only comes on when I'm driving, I cannot check the code. Does anyone have any ideas as to what it could be? 2) Sometimes, my CEL comes on and it's for my TPS. This has been going on or a few months but if I clear it, it doesn't come on again unless I really get on the gas. Is this something I need to have looked at? 3) My radio randomly cuts off momentarily when it gets too loud. It's an aftermarket HU. My friend's dad installed a sub, he was a tech manager at circuit city, and I trust his work, but the radio didn't cut off before the sub was installed. Any suggestions on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

As far as your radio goes adjust the gain down on you amp and maybe run a bigger power wire with cap. Especially If your having lights dimming during sub drops etc.. You might be getting a little knock or maybe a little misfire causing the light to come on under WOT mine was doing it and it was logging a small mistake in my fuel trim settings u need a dsmlink to fix all that forever. I also have a new 50 trim and FMIC.. Hope any of this helps what psi are you running?

Check voltage at the battery when you have the radio turned up high on a song with a lot of bass. I'm sure its dipping pretty low. You probably need a capacitor and higher output alternator.

Its probably knock if I had to guess. I'm not sure about the stock ecu(never had a stock one LOL), but in ECMLink I have my ecu set to turn the check engine light on when I get 2* of knock. I'm sure the stock ecu is set to something like 7*, maybe i'm wrong.

Does the car lose power when the check engine light comes on?

Is power somewhat inconsistent? Do you feel like sometimes you have less power at WOT than other times?

When's the last time you did a boost leak test? If you have a big leak I suppose you could get knock from going very very rich. If you don't find anything then It might just be your knock sensor going bad. Buy OEM if you replace it.

Ok, next time I'm home I will check the battery with the radio on.
I don't notice a power loss every time, I would guess there is power loss about 30% of the time it kind of sputters for a second then when I let off and accelerate again it's fine.
Last time a boost leak test was done was 2 years ago when the turbo was replaced. I know that is too long to have not done one, but I've checked all the couplers, and I still have the stock pipes on for now. I really need to build a BLT, guess that's another project for when I'm home.

You ever figure it out? Sounds like the engine is seeing knock and when it does, it retards the timing advance a lot to keep things safe, which in turn makes it slower.
Yea I haven't made it yet, I haven't been home from college to look at it. I'm thinking it's a boost leak but it could also be a knock sensor failing. I feel like if it was the sensor it would happen more often. I'm not sure I don't really know the signs of a failing knock sensor.

So I haven't updated in a while and there's still not much to report right now. Since my last update I tracked down my boost leak to a tear in my UPIC pipe. I also installed solid shifter bushings on the tranny end and solid shift plate bushings. I've also painted my windshield wiper arms and the plastic trim piece behind them. My next update should contain more since I have outlander brakes, solid intercooler pipes, a new valve cover, and possibly 2GA Talon twisty side skirts.

Really not much to update just figured I'd let y'all know I'm not dead or anything. So I finally tracked down the loose ground wire that would cause my radio to cut out intermittently. On a much more noticeable front, a few cosmetic things. For starters, while making a turn I cut it a little close to the curb and scraped the living hell out of my side skirt. I rattle canned it so it looked better, it came out ok but the color is a little too bright compared to the rest of the car. On a more positive aesthetic note, I recently illuminated my center taillight portion and installed a turbo high rise spoiler. Here are some pictures for y'all to enjoy. Hoping to find a summer job down at college while I'm taking a summer class so I can buy everything needed to install my painted valve cover and solid intercooler pipes. Until next time that's all I got.

Still not much to update, recently dyed my carpets using Rit Dye method and some fabric paint and painted my center console lit. Not sure how I feel about the lid because it came out a lot shinier than I had anticipated. I'm mostly trying to focus on my interior right now since I can't afford many performance parts. I'm thinking my next performance project is either gonna be a straight pipe or trying to get my solid intercooler pipes installed.

I took it to this place locally
https://rodscustom.com/
It cost about $1250-$1500 I can't remember exactly but they bought and installed the new top and it's been great. The only leak I've had has been where the top meets the top of the windshield because my windshield seal has dry rotted so much. Four years later and the top still completely dry except that one corner. I bet you could call them and ask where they got the top.
