I cant get my ecu flash to work . I've searched for two days straight with no luck . I have a 1998 gsx eclipse Auto ( Black box ecu) I bought a open port 2.0 and the Mitsu flash cable . I've downloaded ecu flash selected Mitsu All 2nd gen/Evo5-6 1996-2001 as vehicle type. Then i press read from ecu flash memory . The check engine light comes on and i can hear it making the sound then it goes to complete , i press OK and get a error message of "Unknown Rom Image" with 3 options : Abort , continue with no definition , or use wizard to create new definition. Is there anything I'm doing wrong or something I'm missing ?

Which definition numbers did you type in?
I dint have an option to type anything. Just to click read ecu flash memory. And it gives me unknown rom. I haven't messed with anything after I tried every mitsubishi profile and they all failed. I just left it alone so I don't mess anything up.

Watch this on you tube. Look it up.

What kind of computer are you using?
An asus laptop . And The video is not all that helpful .. he did not get the error message of " unknown rom" . His actually showed the parameters tab not just a blank space on the side with nothing in it.

Do you have the reflash connector on the right pin?
it has to be or else it wouldn't read . i unplugged the special mitsu connector to see if it would still read but it does not. So the connector must be in all the way right?

I have a 98 auto as well and use ECUFlash. It's been a while but I think I (at least used to) get the same message, and just hit next and continued on. I saved the factory ROM, but also saved the ROM on Ceddy's website at that time. I will plug in tomorrow and get some pics.

I am curious if you have more a software issue as opposed to a hardware issue. I had difficulty using ECU Flash at first, but found helpful information here:

When i get to step seven which says " but there will be a drop down box listing a few definition files that can be used. One or two of them will be "1998 GST" or something like that, and also include "20550011" in how it's worded. Selecting the middle radio button that reads something like "use this exact rom" and the correct 20550011 file, then click next." problem is there's no option for any gst rom or anything the box is blank when i click it.

The error you are getting means there is no definition file/XML file. That is what defines the tables and scalars ect. What you need to do is drop the ceddy XML file in the romdata<eclipse directory I believe it's called. Than you open the ceddymods rom in ecuflash, reflash with the mod file. There isn't really any need to read your ROM unless your trying to get immobiliser information. But I THINK that only EVOs needed to do that.

secretagentstv is correct. If you're getting an 'unknown ROM image' message, then you've successfully read the contents of your ECU, but there isn't a definition currently matching that one. If you want to tune that specific ROM image, send it to us as an attachment to an email sent to support at tactrix dot com and I'll take a look to see if we can come up with a definition for you. If you're planning on moving on to a Ceddy ROM (which is what most do), then just grab that ROM image and definition from the Ceddy site (a donation to Ceddy is nice!) and go from there.

Went out and played around with the car a little bit today to remember what I did to get it going. You need to put the rom metadata in your ECUFlash directory, which is located in:

Windows C: > Program Files (x86) > OpenECU > EcuFlash > rommetadata > mitsubishi > eclipse

I have the CeddyMods HEX files as well as the 20220011 XML files. But anyway you need to at least download the 20550011 XML file off Ceddy's website, find it in the directory Windows C: > CeddyMods > CeddyMod_DSM_1v9CB, copy it, and put it in the above file folder. I tried to attach a picture but I still can't seem to do that on this forum. If you want, I can walk you through it just PM me.

This is the message that I'm getting

I am having this very same issue. I do have CeddyMod_DSM_1v9CB, downloaded, unzipped, and placed in "elipse" file in ecuflash. I am trying to get my ecus stock settings (retrieve its flash). What happens if I click, "use wizard to create new definition" option in theses error message?
