so I have had an ACT clutch and streetlite flywheel in my car for some time now. Ever since I had this setup in anyone of my DSM's I always get a squealing/screeching noise when the starter is engaged and it's always been like that with the setup I have I tried swapping out starters 3 diff times and I also have the starter plate in between the trans and block I also tried removing the plate before and still I get a squealing noise I've tried pretty much everything, I just can't figure out what it could possibly be....any thoughts on this issue guys?....some input would be great and my car is a 6 bolt with a m/t

on my 2g 98 Tsi I get a terrible belt squeal sometimes if I start it with all my heat, and lights on. or if I drop it into first or second sometime it will start back up but go away in 4th or 5th. I took it to where I worked and they tightened up some loose belts and it went away for a while, but just started back up again later.

My thoughts you got a old pulley or belt or maybe both. To what it's for, I still got no idea myself. I'm also going have to look into this issue, but I'm most likely just going to buy a set of new pulleys and belts soon anyway.

That's s good thought but I've had plenty of squealing belts before it's not s belt at all its with the starter/flywheel some way or another as soon as u bump the key and the hood is open you can hear the armiture of the starter come out then when it grabs the flywheel it will squeal and as soon as u let off the key and the armiture goes back into the starter and it's running there is no noise what so ever but it's something to do with the flywheel and or starter

F*cked bearing inside the starter?
Have a look at getting it rebuilt maybe :)
Sisters 01 Forester GT had the same symptoms before starter rebuild.

my guess is starter clearance. the bendix may be meshing tightly with the flywheel.

the op already replaced the starter many times.

have you inspected the starters for odd wear or bearing play after replacing?

Is there a chance that there is something wrong with the starter ring on the flywheel? Do you have some way to sneak in there and inspect the teeth on the flywheel ring?

Well I think my pressure plate collapsed cuz I currently have an ACT 2600 in it and the pedal did have really good hard feel and out of no where it was lighter than a stock clutch so it's gonna be getting replaced
