I am looking to upgrade my rotors on my 98 gst daily driver. I am on a budget so I don't know which rotors are good quality for a good price. I am looking at slotted cross drilled rotors in these brands; Powerstop, Max Performance, Hawk ,and Power Slot rotors. Are they solid brand name rotors ? Please help me out with your suggestions.

I have cross drilled & slotted Power Stop rotors on my Mustang, they are holding up as well as any other rotors I have ever run. I'd say they were definitely worth the money I spent on them, and I would definitely buy them again. I'd probably avoid using their pads though, and stick to brands with a long and proven track record, like Hawk or EBC.

Ebc rotors would be good, but I wouldn't get cross drilled if u daily the car. They'll crack alot faster. Slotted Ebc with a good set of hawk or Ebc pads and a flush with good brake fluid would do nicely.

I have to agree with tametalon92, skip the cross-drilled rotors for a daily. The cheap ones do have a tendency to crack because they use solid discs and drill them, the brands you mentioned are designed to be cross-drilled. You will see the most improvement in your braking system from good pads (I recommend HAWK), good fluid (I like ATE), and braided brake lines... If you insist on rotors, get a fresh set of rotors and if you need to get slotted they are a safer bet and do a great job of venting gases away from the pads.

People always say the drilled & slotted rotors will crack, but I have them on 3/5 of the cars we have, and I have not had one crack yet, even with my daily stop and go routine in the Capital Beltway area.

I'm not saying that it can't happen, just that I think it gets blown out of proportion. It's the "All 7 bolts crankwalk" of the brake world.

I don't want this to devolve into a debate about the longevity of them, or if they actually make a difference or not. I just want to say that based on my experience, and my experience alone, cracking has not been an issue, and I would not hesitate to order them again.

If you are looking for a budget brake upgrade, go to GSX dual piston calipers. Even better, make use of the Outlander caliper brackets in the front to run slightly larger rotors. One thing to consider for the slotted/dimpled/drilled rotors are that you lose braking area on the rotor. I prefer to use Centric blank rotors with your choice of pads. High quality at a reasonable price. They have put up with the abuse I have thrown at the with ease. With brakes, people often overlook brake lines and fluid as well.

If you upgrade to the GSX calipers do you also have to use the GSX rotors and pads or are they the same size as the GST rotors?

In addition to the calipers/brackets, you will need to order pads and rotors for a GSX.

So if I bought a set of GSX calipers from Rock Auto, the re manufactured ones, the brackets that come with them wouldn't fit on the GS-T? The hubs and such all remain the same? I had a thought that the rotors and pads would have to be the GSX ones.

You have been given the appropriate information. Feel free to do some additional research.
