i drove my colt (4g63t) 30 miles home with an injector clip off running on three cylinders. that doesnt hurt anything. and there is just no way hydrolock from open injector doesnt seem likely. easy enough to test
my guess is defective piston

That's what I'm thinking now as well!

The engine that came with my 1g talon was blown pretty bad when I got the car, it had a bunch of piston parts and bent rod fragments in the oil pan, and the oil pan itself had a few slits in the side of it.

And for some reason [who knows] the block never got a hole in it, but the balance shaft was pretty bent up, and the lower half of the combustion chambers that don't see the piston was scratched a bit even so I think the block might be savable...LOL, but I did not want to risk it, so I got another motor all together, and I'm now in the process of building up a motor at a shop at the moment, it's being machined and prepped.

OP Real sorry to hear about your motor failure man, I'd say sometimes the big mistakes help us more then the little ones, so if anything at least you've seen what can happen first hand next level dsmer award right there.

btw were you running 6 bolt, or 7 bolt rods when this happened to your motor?
Right? I'm trying to take this all in a positive way. It's just hard after this bring the 5th engine going into my car... Ha but it had 7bolt rods in it.!

I thought those looked like the 7 bolt rods in the pictures you posted... Well maybe this is a good excuse to finally do a 6 bolt motor swap, or at the least a built 7 bolt short block motor, you may even want to consider the 2.4 or 2.3 stroker options, they don't really cost much more, if you do some of the work yourself.

Built 6bolt 2.4l motor already in! runs amazing done with in a week or two couldn't be happier with it!

I am thinking along the lines of a wrist pin boss that failed, allowing the pin to pull from the piston, which then allowed the pin to slap around in the cylinder until it broke a hole in the block , then finally the pin got caught on the broken block which then bent /broke the rod. No way that hydrolocked.

I am praying for your new engine to last though many pulls and have a long life. No one should have to go though 5 engines in 1.5year.
Your such a sport If I went though that many engines in a year I would be sitting in a 240sx 5 engines would be way to costly I dont want to even know how much money you have put into that engine hungry talon. Good luck with #5

Yeah man I know that feeling trust me I blown an engine or 2 and the feeling experienced afterwards is just numb! But I am going to be honest Its really hard to tell from the video what could have caused the issue. It certainly was not running lean the damaged piston seems to have as much rich soot on it as the other 3, It also doesn't appear that you spun a rod bearing for it would show some form of discoloration on the rod end cap from heat. I will say its a definite a mechanical failure for sure, what failed , piston, pin or rod its hard to say.

I would say after you get the engine out and the pieces laid upon a table do another video so we can have a better look at the damaged parts something may give a better clue. These build for these cars are very costly, labor , parts, machine work and its failures like these is when people throw in the towel with these cars I would encourage you to hang in there to at least get a correct answer on what really happened if this is even possible that way you will be in a better position to decide to fix or not:cool:

I am saying this because there are too many parting car out ads on these board heck I almost parted mine out 7yrs ago Today I am glad I didn't and some who do eventually come back starting from scratch and regretting ever selling their stuff. Again sorry that this happened to you in such a short time after all this work:|

dude that motor looks sick man:hellyeah:
I wish I had my motor back from the shop I've been contemplating possibly keeping my 2.4 crank that I was listing up for sale, and making a 2.3 stroker motor with it or getting a 2.4 block with 88mm crank and going the long rod 2.1 route man so many options here.

Cliff notes...have you pulled the injectors and tried to hook them up to power and see if they spray or what the deal is or even a noid light to see if it stays open anything?

thank you sir  it was definitely not cheap but things came together for me! Ive been having a lot of fun with it for sure. hope your build comes together and you enjoy it!

it sucked for sure... after disassemble I actually threw the engine out in the dumpster... so no other remains.. we had to get rid of it and was just taking up room in the shop.. I kept the crank but that was it and crank was in great shape! LOL Im just going off mechanical failure as well. cheap parts i guess. but live and learn! thanks! :dsm::hellyeah:

haven't done anything with injectors but put them in a plastic baggy and put stock 450's back into the motor. LOL i need to figure something out either send them off to get cleaned or try to run them again.. I have been convinced the injectors are fine. I'm still sending them off probably before I either run them or sell them:|

If you do decide to sell them make sureeeeeeeeeeeeee you know they are good to go...you dont want somebody elses precious build to go to dumpstah's. Even though it is their responsibility to check the parts they install!

Wow that must have been a really loud *bang*

yeah if i do decide to sell them i am getting them flow tested and cleaned if needed for sure!

Sounds like a plan, funny thing is i had a similiar failure running a car fire engine...never figured out what happend to it. I should probably start a national forum project thread as well hmm

Cheap parts? Which ones?
