Well my Questions is if I can use a base model Talon/Eclipse to fix the rust on my TSI AWD.

you can use the parts to swap out rusty parts, but it wont "fix the rust"

IMHO you're better off fabricating the pieces from new steel and welding them in..if you're going to spend the time, might as well put in new steel rather than old steel. but it depends on where rust is located and how handy you are. either way just make sure any new pieces are primed/painted and you use correct hardware (re; "dissimilar metals in contact)

Yes, you can cut and swap panels to fix the rust since base model and AWD bodies are identical. How much rust are you talking about though, and where exactly?
rocker panels and wheel wells.

Yeah that's how mine look on my 98. It's almost finished. I was able to get a full rocker for Miller import parts.
ya im thinking of getting new rockers from mitsubishipartswarehouse.com. but i want pics of what a rust free wheel wells too.

You should be able to get most sheet metal panels......not genuine Mitsubishi, but aftermarket. I'm thinking that if you bring a car to a body shop, they would get them. I was looking on line for left front fenders for a 2gb GSX. Mitsubishi doesn't make them anymore. I did find a few places online selling them, so I've got to imagine (I hope, because I need them too :) ) the same places have the rockers.

Since I have no welding fabrication skills, experience or tools, I'm planning to get it done. Both strut towers are starting to rust and both rockers in front of the rear wheels. I have no idea what it will cost, but I am not ready to part with the car.
