This car is putting me through the rigors of owning a DSM. How have you guys fixed this problem? As you can see, the previous owner's repair was ineffective. Rather than patch this or rig it up in a way that will lead to it leaking again in the future, I would like to do something permanent and clean. Is there a company that makes new sending units? Or some type of repair kit?

I would like to run nice new clean stainless braided lines for both the feed and the return, HOWEVER I don't really want to connect them to these rusted lines out of the sending unit. Any input is appreciated, lets see your photos,

Here is mine:

It appears to be leaking from the rusted line that was previously repaired.

The return line next to the an fitting?

It's kind of hard to tell, when I cleaned out the fuel and watched it, it leaks with the car on or off, and that area of the sending unit just appears to slowly fill with fuel.

Hmm sounds like maybe the feed fitting. The return shouldn't have that much fuel in it to do that. I would take the sending unit off and then the an fitting and see what's up with it. Should be some sort of seal or welded to the unit. Hard to tell from pic but looks like where the an fitting meets the sending unit is what's leaking.

I've got an ad for a rebuilt sending unit with -AN bungs welded in (properly) in the classifieds.

Have you taken the unit out and checked the gasket?
Cheap to replace, I just fixed mine that was doing the same thing when I filled the tank.

No I have not. I haven't attempted to remove it yet. That would be great if it was that simple.

One vendor site just shows the gasket as 2g fuel pump gasket, another vendor says 2g fwd and 1g gasket are the same. Anyone know ?
Just checked VFAQ, 1g and 2g fwd are indeed the same gasket. 2g fwd has a different gasket.;)

I was literally about to ask this same question.
