Wanna replace this big ugly thing.

I'm.new to this and really don't know what to shop/search for.

For the sake of cost until you find an aftermarket intake you want, you can just take the canister housing off leaving the air filter exposed. Better airflow at no cost.
 
If you just remove the canister there would be nothing to hold the filter (unless you got complete aftermarket, that is) so it would be better to cut openings in the canister while keeping enough of it to still hold the factory filter.
