This will be my first timing belt install, and I am very nervous. I looked at the vfaq but I need more details. Like what should I look out for. I don't want to bend my valves.

Here is an additional video series for more visual learners:
(Be aware this is complete on a 92 6-bolt, so use this as a resource only)

I highly recommend getting the timing tools as it will make your job easier. Actually you should have the tensioner pulley tool as that is what sets proper tension to the belt. I just did a timing belt on my GSX and all came out well, but dont rush a job like this. After you do this, you will realize a TB job on these cars isnt really that difficult.

Thanks. Sorry I have been busy with work and had a little time to work on her not to long ago just need to find my last can cap bolt

Sorry I'm late guys. So I have the tool to compress the tensioner arm. so all I have to do now is loosen the main nut on the tensioner pulley?

I would replace the tensioner assembly and the tensioner pulley.

You need to put an allen key wrench into the tensioner to lock it into position. I took off the rocker arm with the tensioner pulley and then removed the belt.

Also replace the balance shaft belt. You will need to slightly rotate the crank to free the belt up to go around the dust shield behind the crank pulley, same for install

That last bit is only true for 7 bolts both 1 and 2g. 6 bolt you have to remove the crank sprocket.

Yes sir, forgot to specify that. I've been using your knowledge in posts on my own belt job. The vfaq just states remove the balance belt which is not true, it gets hung up on the backing plate even with the crank sensor removed

If you can slide your balance shaft belt out with the crank at its alignment point you should probably check for crank walk or something, mine was wedged back there and there is no way to remove the balance belt, let alone cleanly install one

I also like to mark my belt teeth marks on the cams crank and oil pump sprocket. Using those 4 points of reference and counting teeth from old belt to new there is no way to miss your timing marks, assuming your old belt was still intact and undamaged

Example of my paint brush mark on the crank onto a tooth on the belt. I used a paint pen on the crank and onto a tooth of the old belt. I suppose tape would have worked too

I just got of work guys. I know the motor is 100% fine with CW because my mother is the original owner! I will work on it when I get home. I'm just confused on how in videos showing the timing belt install, the belt just gets mega loose and slides off.

You use the special tool which is basically a long bolt to push down the tensioner arm which pushes down on the tensioner assembly. The long bolt threads through the engine mount

You slide a pin into the tensioner assembly to lock it in compressed position which puts a slight amount of slack on the belt when you back out the special tool which is just a long bolt. You can then remove the tensioner assembly or just loosen the tensioner pulley bolt.
