I've looked through a bunch of old threads only to realize most of the tires don't exist anymore. What are you 500whp+ guys running for street tires? I'm having a hard time finding a decent 26" tall street tire. I want to run Toyo R888's but they only come in 24" tall for 15" rims

Any input is greatly appreciated. Please list tire brand and size

I'll chime in but it's not gonna be anything anyone wants to hear and it's not even remotely practical for your application. More of a "get information out there" post. My car traps about 130 and it's pretty close to stock weight. I'm currently on nankang ns2-r's ( the 120 tread wear version) and I can't even chirp them other than launching on the street. I would even venture to say they can do high 1.6 60 foots on the street. I wanted something nice like the r888's but I'm in my senior year of college so I went cheap. I planned to swap them out when I graduated but wound up liking them so much Im not gonna bother anymore. They're fairly large for theyre labeled size also. A 235 40 18 came in at 9.5" wide and about 26 tall. I know they're not a 26" drag radial on a 15" wheel, but they hold my 500 hp with ease and my clutch hates me for having to ride it so hard on launches to keep from bogging.

I appreciate the input. I'm being very picky with tire choice because I'm trying to keep it as light as possible, hence the 15" rims. My top choice is a Hoosier QTP strictly for the weight savings

26x9.5" QTP weighs 18lbs

24x9" R888 weighs 24lbs

I completely agree, its just hard to justify the price for such slight gains with an AWD. I know your goals are already set and you'll need something that light with your setup and goals but that's 75% of a built bottom end for the price of rubber.

I see what you're saying. My car is extremely light and I busted my ass to get it to the weight it's at so to just throw on some heavy tires to save some money is hard to do. But that's why I made this thread, to get others opinions and see what they run. Maybe there's a decent street tire that doesn't weigh 30lbs+ that I'm missing. Traction isn't the issue here, it's strictly weight. The car is going to spin in 1st regardless of what tire I run

I run the cheapest tires I could get at the "tire shop".. haha. Think I paid 60$ a tire for my FD wheels. Still manage to pull some 1.6 60's. I see where you're at with weight savings, we are just on separate views. My car sees the street most of the time so throwing on some expensive tires on it I couldnt justify. So, if I could go fast at the track with crap tires, :thumb: I know it wasnt a whole lot of info, but at least its another little idea.

Well i dont know about " sizes as i never measure the total size but on my old skyline i used what i use now and they are vredestein ultrac sessantas and they do sell them in the USA as ive seen them before there. Great tires for road and even track, the other is the yoko AD08R and these will work well too. Both i have had problems breaking traction with as they just keep gripping. The vredesteins are also amazing in the wet aswell,

They are my offer to this discussion so hope it helps

My car is only running a 5 gallon fuel cell so it won't see a ton of miles at once. I may pick up a spare wheel setup for when I'm going to go to local meets and shows so I don't have to constantly drive around on Hoosiers

I thought we was on about road tires not drag tires so sorry if i missed read it wrong

Ice tires if you're running 15in/16in rims or if you want to go all out get m&h bias plys. 17in+ your traction is probably going to suck no matter what you get so go with a direzza/potenza or similar so you can atleast have fun going around corners and stuff.
