I've read about having pressure drop problems when the intercooler is too big. My question is how do i know if the intercooler i would like to purchase is too big? With the way I'm building my setup, the ic that will fit has a 10" x 3.5" core. It's the CX racing Mustang big core. Any input would be appreciated.

I had that exact ic on my 1g. In 09 I contacted kiggly because I knew he ran this same ic and went 8.99 but he was much much happier with the garret core. I know he keeps compares data and he told me pressure drop was acceptable on the cx racing core but he then stated it didn't cool very well. And I can confirm that it does not cool worth shit!!!! And the size has nothing to do with its pressure drop. Its the design of the core. It just has poorly designed fins and end tanks. In 2012 at only 24psi I was getting AIT increase a little over 40* for one pass. I let the car cool down and Up the boost 29psi. That pass it increased near 50*. these ait were on nonhumid 69-70* night). Although car did eventually go 10.5 at that 29psi. Move to present. I now have ETS 4" core. I looked at a untuned log from may 2015. Ait were consistent 98.8* at 38psi and that's probably 300+ more whp then in 2012. I also looked up the exact Chicago temps for that day. It was sunny and 85* and had to be humid because cruising ait were 96.8*!!

Well shit. That's too bad. I realize the single side inlet/ exhaust isn't the best but that was the perfect size overall for the placement i am planning. Any suggestions? Would either of the ic mentioned support 375-400 whp on an awd? I'd like to get away with just one purchase but it might not be in the cards.

you should be ok at 375-400whp range. but getting closer to 500 and up. it just wont due

Problem is the engine will be around the 525 hp mark to achieve the 375-400 wheel hp. If changing my ic choice makes it easier or more safe i probably should.

there are other brand eBay intercoolers that are more efficient. Go thru and search older post and you'll find plenty of info
