Hey everyone,

I am pretty new to the dsm world, and I have my first build started up. I bought a 6 bolt long block with trans and transfer case off of someone on the forum and I am in the process of rebuilding it. The rebuild is going smoothly, the block, crank and pistons are at a dsm specialty shop to make sure everything is looking good before I rebuild. The problem with my engine is there were no sensors included with the engine. I was wondering what sensors I will need, for example: ckp, cmp, knock sensor, water temp sensor, etc, and also where to buy them. Also a rough estimate of how much they will cost would be amazing. Thanks for everyones help!

I am just building the engine currently, I don't have the shell. Should I hold off on buying the sensors untill I buy my shell. I still haven't decided if I want to go gen 1 or 2. Are some of the sensors not compatable with the other gens?

Yes wait, most of the sensors are different between the 1G and 2G. You might want to start reading some of the 6 bolt swap threads to learn what you'll face if you buy a 2G.

I think that I will be going for the 1g platform, because I'm not ready to take on all of the extra steps of putting a 6 bolt in a 2g. Anyone have a list of all the stock 6 bolt sensors needed to have the car run? Can I buy these sensors used, or is that a bad idea? Thanks

Thanks for those links luv2rallye! I guess I will wait to buy sensors until after I buy my shell I guess, in case some are already attached? I'm still interested to know where people go to buy replacement sensors. I believe I saw a ckp and cmp sensor on stm, but those are the only ones. Do any vendors here carry them?

jnz tuning, extreme psi, stm... and if you get lucky wrecking yards sometimes have Mitsubishi cars that shared some sensors, like the i.s.c, coolant temp sensor, and the T.P.S. and the 6 bolt motors don't technically have a crankshaft position sensor or TDC sensor[I'm assuming thats what you meant by c.k.p it should be c.p.s], basically the crank sensor signal is run off of the C.A.S [cam angle sensor, aka c.p.s same as cam position senor... or the cmp sensor you mentioned above] they are together in one unit. they look like any one of these.

Thanks. I am trying to make the transition from the abbreviations I was taught before and the abbreviations in the DSM community. For example, I was taught ckp, but it is cps here. Slowly catching on though.

I'll call the local junkyards and see if they have any DSMs they are parting out, or compatable Mitsubishi cars.

This discussion is entirely academic until you get a car. There is no reason to look for certain sensors as they will be different from model year to model year. In my opinion you are putting the cart before the horse. If you are interested in which sensors are different from year to year then please make a post with that type of question. Alternately you can get a copy of the Mitsubishi software and click on each sensor individually and find out which models it applies to.

Ok, so I'll hold off on the sensors until I have bought my roller. Thanks everyone for all the informative links and support.
