Hey all, I have had an exhaust leak that didn't seem to bad. I thought maybe this car just needed a new gasket, well now I am installing a e3 16g and also fp exhaust manifold. During the removal process I came across this bolt of the exhaust manifold (bottom right) that looks like someone cut. What are my options? I wasn't planning on removing the studs until now. I do not want to order them, if anything ARP is local and maybe I could buy from the warehouse. Is it possible to get the size at a hardware store?

The exhaust studs on the head are known for breaking/shearing. So much so that we used to recommend replacing all of them when you work on the exhaust manifold. If they didn't break during removal they often would when you torque the manifold back down.

It shouldn't be hard to find 8mm and 10mm studs in the LA area. Try Road Race Engineering if all else fails in Santa Fe Springs. I see they list the studs, nuts and washers on their site.

Thank you sir, I appreciate it! I will try osh.

I assume you're referring to the MISSING stud in the picture? Well that will be one hell of a task in trying to remove what's left with the motor in the car. When the manifold's off you may luck out and find a little piece of the stud left which you can wrestle out with vice grips, buy usually they shear off flush.
You can try removing the PS pump and radiator and somehow drill out the stud; good luck with that angle.
Or, do what I did. I have two broken studs, one on each end, and used a Mr. Gasket copper gasket. That'll hold you over until you pull the motor someday. Definitely replace the studs though. That's how I went from one broken stud to two. RTV the center bottom one. Got a set from AEM off eBay for $20

On a 2G that broken stud and the bottom one on the other end are 10mm. The rest are 8mm. I still recommend that you replace them all to avoid having more break.

You can buy tools to remove the studs but using the two thin nuts tightened against each other works great.

I know you can purchase a full stud kit from auto zone or your local part store. I would recommend replacing all of them. You don't just buy one new tire and leave all the other bald one on the car do you? If one has broke the others may fallow soon.

when i bought my fp manifold I also ordered new studs because it's one of those things that once you are in there you might as well change everything. all my studs came out with no effort but one snapped trying to removing it. just change them all since you are in there, it will look way better with Shiney new bolts and studs.
