My SRS light is on constantly. I decided to disconnect the battery (negative cable). I then waited a day and unplugged the SRS ECU and plugged it back in. I doubt this will fix my light but it's worth a shot.

Just to be sure, I'm okay to reconnect the battery, aren't I? I didn't trip some SRS emergency timer or anything and the airbags will blow when I reconnect? Just want to be sure.

No they wont haha, once you disconnect the srs module it wont send any signal to the bags. If you remove the bags dont drop them as then they might deploy

I'm sorry but this amused me haha anyways no they won't deploy just because you disconnect the srs module. As for your issue why don't you figure out why the light is on instead of just trying to reset it?

Well he cant reset it without a trip to the dealer so it will always stay on now reguardless, if you dont need bags then ditch them anyway

I tried to make it amusing so people would respond. I think the issue can be cleared up by replacing the module. But I'm not near a junk yard so I thought I'd try to unplug/replug and see if that doesn't clear any random issue. I'm in IT LOL. The SRS light came on after doing a head gasket change. I don't think it's related though. The impact sensors in a 99 are all in the module, I believe.

One SRS light on possibility is a poor connection of the connector behind the glove box (mine does this often): http://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/glove-box-light.435692/#post-153493943.

Another is the SRS ECU: http://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/srs-light-on-replacing-srs-ecu-module.423998/#post-152841588

Yes, thanks. Those are my 2 go-to threads on this topic. I tried disconnected the plug and reconnecting and it didn't work. I need to get a new module.

I'm about to plug reconnect my car battery. I'll report back to this thread if by some miracle my SRS light is off.

It wont stay off unless the dealership takes it off from the module! Now you disconected it this light will stay on for ever now

Wrong. Unplugging it will turn it OFF mines a 99 too mine was on and i removed the thing. Went to the dealer first to get a code cleared and it came back on after so i just said fk it they said the code for me was clock spring (in steering wheel).

Incase your wondering, where would the light code be stored if there was no SRS ecu to store it kol

I worded it wrong but in my previous reply incase you didnt read it i stated once its connected again it wont reset so needs to go to tbe dealership and and thats why it will stay on after, yes if its disconnected it will stay off but he tried to reconnect it again in hopes it would stay off! Hence my short reply as it was specific to the reconnecting part.

Sorry i should have been more specific for everyone else

Worked for this guy: http://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/srs-light-on-replacing-srs-ecu-module.423998/#post-152841588

So am i assuming you bought a new srs module then? Or are you using the old one? That will answer alot

Oh, the way I understood (misunderstood) your answer was that once a module is disconnected, the car will throw the code until the dealer clears it.

The dealer may need to clear if to get the light off when everything is installed.

If you dont care about your air bags and just want the light off, unplug the SRS ecu.

If you do care about your air bags. Figure out what the code is from the dealer and fix it, or replace the SRS ECU.

If you dont want to mess with it at all, and want the light off. (Assuming you dont care of the reason light is on) remove the bulb from the cluster.

My light was flickering on and off now and then for a few days at a time i went to the dealer and they said it was bad clock spring. They cleared the code but it came back in cold weather. I ended up removing the ecu and i have an evo8 steering wheel now and airbag is disconnected. I weekend warior/drag my car though and have a 5pt harness so i dont carr about itnas much.
