Hey all, to start off YES i have searched, could not find anything on it.

I have my 98 GSX's dash out and deleted HVAC and a few other things. I am not looking to simplify the dash harness and delete the wires I do not need. I can't seem to find anyone who did this before, no connector diagrams, or anything. I keep finding 1g Stuff.

I want to delete everything I do not need, HVAC wires, wipers, etc. etc. I just do not know if it safe to delete some things because they may be a failsafe for another system. I also do not know every connector on it so I need to start with that.

Can Anyone help me out?

Thanks

Buy a factory service manual for your year, you can normally find them on eBay for a decent price.

Removing/depining (don't just cut but remove the pins from the harness) the wires should effect any other systems from what I've looked at.
I've got an interior harness to go through but haven't had time yet.

If you deleted your abs, ac and heat, you can take a ton out of the dash harness. The way I did it: mark every plug that doesn't now have a home and trace back to where it originates. If you're going to start going this far, might as well take the front body harness out, too and do the same.

If you're not running a race car with no dash, just tie everything up and out of the way. I don't think you have any idea how much time and effort this takes. If you're not familiar with the wiring in your car, then it could spell disaster.

Right now my dash harness is still in the car, i feel that would be the easiest way to start labeling everything since I can see where it would all go. Then pull it once it is all labeled and start removing the things I do not need.

Dexterholland, do you have a write up or any pictures to give me some guidance?

Thanks

Mine is done and it was a walk in the park. Just take time to label every connector you disconnect, even a kid could do it. Label than follow each wire one a the time, unpin them one at the time and look at each connector. You'll have wires for the dash harness that aren't in the harness from the ecu. They use the same dash harness for AUTO or MT so you'll have spare wires because of the cluster. Just look at them one at the time and it'll be super easy.

Nope, just take your time and label things if you need to. I did the engine harness/tuck, front harness, fuse box relocation to inside the car, dash and rear harness all at the same time. It's not difficult, it just takes a LONG time to do it all...and to do it correctly. De-looming the wiring harnesses us honestly the worst part. Wear gloves. Have some sharp razor blades. If I had to do it all over again...and I will, this winter...I'm just going to make my own custom wiring harness from the engine, all the way to the brake lights. IMO, that's the easiest way to go about doing it...at least in a full-blown drag-only car like mine.

Wouldn't it be easier just to tuck the unused connectors up out of the way inside the dash rather remove it all? A few wires and connectors don't really amount to much weight, and if you ever decide you want them back, you won't need to re-pin the harness.

Did you ever make that custom harness for your car? If so how did you do it? What senors did you keep since your doing a full blown drag car?
