I notice shep seems to be out too, I'm working on my motor and my trans was next. Seems like its TRE or TMZ at this point. What happened to Diamonds are FOUR-EVV-ERR.

Mitsubishi parts aren't forever.

More profitable platforms to work on as well, DSM's don't pay the bills.

I made a 2 hr trip last weekend and picked up 3 awd transmission cores (seller didn't know the conditions of them). Two have been opened before and one is still factory sealed from Mitsubishi I hope this one hasn't been trashed. Either way they all had good output shafts and the dude gave me parts out of a forth trans. I plan to start rebuilding 2 of the 5 spares I have before parts get any more difficult to find.

Shame to hear, i thought we had easy another 10 years of trouble free parts.... Im selling my mk2 supra because of part unavailability, cant even get coolant hoses from the dealerships anymore let alone gaskets, seals etc all the basic stuff non-existent. Mk2's used to be like dsms cheap and everywhere, now you'll have a hard time findi g a decent condition one and used part prices are climbing higher each year.
Maybe i shouldn't use my talon as a winter beater....why did you people have to type this stuff for me to read! I need a mental therapist now jk

That is correct, I am trying to finish some big jobs, and a huge backlog, all while building a new shop, and making a new website. On top of family duties.

I don't even know if the shop will be open by October like I had planned so it might put a few more weeks on the delays before I am back to doing transmissions full time.

Easiest way to get a hold of me currently is simply email - [email protected]

Thanks,

TMZ

Hello everyone!

Figured I'd better clear the air a little in here. We love DSMs and know that if it wasn't for this platform, we would not be where we are now. DSMs have been the backbone of this company.

If we have the manpower and time, we would continue with the DSM trans builds, but the problem is we just don't have the time anymore. Out of the 12 people we employ here we are torn 50/50 on this. Half of the people here think it's a bad move to stop and the other half don't want to deal with it anymore. We are still trying to discuss this internally as a company to figure out what we can do. Once we catch up on the projects this year, we may be open to working on them again. Not sure yet...

There is light at the end of the tunnel, though! If we do decide to eliminate the trans builds for good, we are going to offer all of our secrets to the public! Everything from trans tear-down, parts replacement, synchro blueprint, assembly, preloads, cleaning, etc. It will all be on our website with all of the details to build your own trans just like we did! The only catch is we would ask that you buy the parts you need to build the trans from us. We still want to offer the parts, but just don't have the time for the full builds.

I will let everyone know what our final decision is when we truly have a plan.

Thanks!

Jack

What's the part availability like for FWD trans? I've thought about doing an AWD swap but it's looking like the swap will be easier than sourcing all the parts for it at this point. And I have a Shep FWD trans as a spare to hold me over.

As die hard fanatics that we are, its always troubling to lose a vendor, supplier, talented craft men. But as I read I thought apart from the obvious, this will only further hone the skills and desire for learning and advancement that many of us have. I applauded jacks good intentions to leave behind the blue prints to his technique. I believe it beyond fair to abide by his request.

Question for jacks did you use oem seals and bearings? Or do you sell them. Oem not crosses

We never used the cheap stuff. Always the latest and greatest OEM parts from Mits. There was 1 output seal which many people have difficulty installing correctly, though. That is the only seal we replaced with aftermarket to assure it would not leak after installation. The quality of the seal was still very good and actually cost more than the OEM.

Parts we sell are HERE. A lot of stuff :)

And you're going to continue to still sell the Oem stuff right???

I very much appreciate all of the kind comments in this thread! That's one of the reasons why if we do spill the beans as to all of our secrets- I will feel just fine about it.
I hope I get a chance to bring you guys my transmission for a rebuild ; ) My short block, you guys put together for me, has been performing beautifully these past couple years. Top notch work for sure.

Jack, I LOVE my Stage3 trans that you guys did for me a year ago that I just got installed about 2 months ago. Smooth shifting at all rpm's, very very nice transmission. I wish you the best and do hope you continue to offer your wonderful service, like you gave me! I know its a hard decision but there are a lot of die hards that really need a good company like you guys! Keep up the good work! Marty Wilson

Seems like the parts that people destroyed, spider gears, output shafts, center diff housings ect. You can still find them from places but mitsu discontinued them and word around the water cooler was the mitsu warehouses were bought out. Jack or Tim would know more about it.
