Does NJ smogs it as an OBD2 car and just plug into your OPB2 port and run a scan or do they do a sniff check? If OBD2 then yes, you can use this.

Actually depends.. What codes is your car throwing?

From what I've read nj inspection is very easy to get through now. But with my cel on I'll fail. I don't have time to chase down these problems and this car needs to get me to work 6-7 days a week. In nj, obd2 cars don't get the sniffer

In NJ 96 and up cars are plugged into a computer that is online to the DMV. It plugs into the ODB II port and scans the eCU. If it passes, the computer will automatically print a pass sticker that attaches to the inspection sticker. Inspections are done free as part of the registration fee and state inspection stations, but our cars would not get through that. There are independent shops that do inspection for $79.50...well that's what mine charges. I don't think many shops would risk their license and the ramifications of letting you pull a fast one. The inspection sticker has their information coded into the bar code printed on it. i have a 99 GSX and I know that all of the readyness tests are NOT supposed to be complete. I always have 2 incomplete.

So since my car is a 95 they may still do the sniffer, which means buying and flashing an ecu may be a waste of money. Looks like I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place.

I just did a quick online search and it seems that 1995 and older vehicles are tested with a 5 gas analyzer (smog sniffer) with the car on a dyno.

I attempted to directly post the code, but the code tags here caused a page loading issue for the site and it didn't display correctly. So here is a re-attempt.

Find the 20550011.xml file in your "OpenECU\EcuFlash\rommetadata\mitsubishi\eclipse" folder.

Open it in Wordpad.

Scroll to the bottom of the xml file and copy/paste the text from the xml file I am attaching to this post into it directly before the "/rom" at the end.

Save the file.

Restart EcuFlash and open the 20550011.bin or .hex rom image file.

Thank you, sir. Not sure why the link didnt work for me the other night.

Which link? The file I attached to post #57 above should be copied and then pasted into your ROM image right before the end. I attached that small file to my post above so that it would remain on this site's server. I did so because I expected a loss of the hyperlink in the first post of this thread.

You will need to use the notepad program on your laptop or something similar, as opening it with an HTML compatible program will enact the code and the program will try to run it. I don't know about you, but all my android devices don't have anything that will open it correctly. All you want to do is copy the script, not run it.
