I would want to know who rebuilt them, if they aren't rebalanced they will have a shorter life span than normal. How short, depends on how far out of balance they are and how hard you push them. Could be 1 week, could be 5 years. But I am a fan of MHI when it comes to journal bearing turbos. I would want to know more about the billet wheel installed in it though and what parts were used to rebuild it. Just because it is a MHI turbo, doesn't mean it was rebuilt with OEM parts.

I'm not trying to scare you away, just letting you know, if you want to really make an educated decision and lower your risk on a bad purchase, you NEED to know these things about the turbo in question. If you can't find these answers, I personally wouldn't buy either one.

- Regular Evo 3 16g is rebuilt by dsmtuner verified person and using OEM parts

- Billet Evo 3 is rebuilt by one of verified dsm builders from FB group and this was his answer on the parts:
"Yes I use oem and turbolab upgraded internals. The billet wheels r from my supplier out of texas"

If they don't take the time to type are instead of r, are they taking shortcuts with their work as well?

The Turbo Lab rebild kit has a 18mm thrust spacer, rather than a factory 14mm. This means either you have to machine out the 16G bearing housing, or buy one from Turbo Lab which is already machined. So, I'd want to know if he's also using a Turbo Lab bearing housing machined for the larger 18mm thrust spacer, or if he clearanced the housing himself.

Second, I'm calling BS on 47lbs/min. That may be a 20G compressor, but it's coupled to a TD05 turbine, which will not give you real 20G results (even in the larger 8cm^2 housing, in case anyone was wondering). I want to see logs to back these kind of numbers up. I've logged my E316G at 41lbs/min, and I seriously doubt I'm going to pick up the other 6lbs/min by simply bolting a 20G wheel onto my bastard 16G. Not to mention, the hype put on the billet wheel upgrade in this application is pretty much moot. The TD05 turbine doesn't have the potential to push the cast 20G wheel, much less a billet one.

I just finished building a bastard 20G myself. I did the rebuild and entire conversion for around $200 bucks. Here's the link, specs are in my profile: http://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/gstwithpsis-galant-vr4-1837-2000.482807/page-3#post-153534325

Ok so this is how it all went down :)

The first option (member of dsmtuner.com over 270 positive trades) was not getting back to me on time so i ended up getting the second version with billet and guy started working on it. WELL he finished it and the same day he was about to ship it, first option guy replies back to me. LUCKILY he did it in the perfect time. Long story short, he called BS on the second builder and the builder did not even ATTEMPT do defend his work but just said, here is your money back :) His turbo had 14b on it, spider web and not cleaned well.

So now I'm getting it from option 1 guy (probably well known person to you all here, Jus) and I'm glad and thankful that he came to the rescue in perfect time because my noob self would not know the difference between good and bad even when i would hold it in my hands :( He is using all new parts and i opt to go with billet.

Thanks again bud, wherever you are, you superhero you :ninja: :ninja: :ninja:
