After bolting on what is pretty much a G50 turbo of mystery origin, and spending too much time over its proper oiling I noticed what might be an oil restrictor already installed. S'that what I'm lookin' at?

I snagged this alleged SBR Ball Bearing G50 off our classifieds like, 3 years ago to replace the 16G I knew would fail soon....But did SBR specifically ever make a ball bearing G50??

EDIT: The turbo could be a Turbonetics as they did the bb centers--Thanks Mr. Moderator who answered my post about the restrictor size 2 years ago!

Apparently the original owner decided to go a different route and only used the turbo for a few thousand miles, so he sold it to his friend, who didn't use it, who sold it to me for a decent price. In that way, its light use is the one thing I can at least confirm. I can also confirm it's been ported/ had that casting step-down smoothed out.

Anyway, although I have a restrictor that I had bored to the recommended size for the bb turbo (I don't specifically remember as I forgot where i wrote it down) I'm not sure whether that extra nut between the steel braided fitting and the housing is already a restrictor.

It might make sense because I understand some companies doin' the G50 had them preinstalled

Please omit the G50 hate because #1 its on the car now and not coming off until it blows up #2 I've already read all the ancient pro/con forums that, I might add, all say completely contradictory things on where best to tap the oil feed, no matter if its ball bearing or journal. It's coming off the head, likely with an inline filter regardless, and that's that.

If I had known my mechanic had already put together a bastard 20G I would've used that instead of stressing over this for forever...and still might. I'll keep ya'll posted as to what happens. Just glad its progressing

Not a G50- that's an old SBR GT10. Should use a GT30R CHRA with an oddball 53/76mm compressor, giving it a compressor trim of 48. Full Garrett part number would be 700177-5010s.

The turbine used on this unit is smaller than that of a standard 30R so turbine flow may suffer...it's sort-of in between a GT28 and GT30 in size, and some old data I have saved rates the turbo at roughly 44 lb/min making it about as potent as a standard MHI 20G.

Holy Shizzle dude thank you again. On-freaking point.
