Greeting. I'm a long-time DSMer, first time poster to tuners. I've searched the auto trans achive and read all 3 posts related to the differences in wiring on our cars. However, none of those threads appears to have come to a resolution.

My situation:

I went to IPT with several trannies. Some for cores, 1 to be rebuilt for my 93 awd talon. I believe I either got the wrong trans entirely, or, I got one or more incorrect plugs installed, because only 1 of the connectors matches up exactly in terms of # of wires and colors. Please note, this is not a screed against IPT. I think John and his crew are terrific. I've made many visits and always found them to be friendly, helpful, and accomodating.

I've been building this car for 2 years, slowly. Partly because I became a dad shortly after I started the project, and partly because it's just a hobby and I work on it as time allows. Below are the pics, labelled as best I can, of both the trans side plugs and the harness side plugs. Any help you can provide identifying the matches or identifying where I went wrong is VERY appreciated.

Current status. The tranny fits fine, car runs and drives, albeit with only 2 forward gears that must be manually selected. TCU codes being thrown are 45 and 85, both of which read "Open-Circuited shift control Pressure Control Solenoid valve".

Trans side
These 4 green wires come from 2 separate plugs on top of the trans and merge into a single 4-pin connector.

I believe these next 2 pics are the 3-wire plug for the trans temp sensor. Not too worried as I have an aftermarket sensor.

These 2 are of a single red wire coming from the front of the trans. This should be the kickdown solenoid? No code thrown. Not shown is a similar 1 wire connector on the vehicle harness side.

These 2 pics are less of a concern as they have an exact match on the vehicle wiring harness.

The one connector that matches up referenced above

Next two pics show a 2-pin with 2 green wires with with yellow trim. No clue

These two pics show a 4-pin connector with red , green, white, and black wires. Pretty sure they mate to the 4-pin connector shown above on the trans side with the 4 green wires. That is what I have connected with now. Without this connection, I throw codes 41(Open-Circuited shift control solenoid valve A) and 43 (Open-Circuited shift control solenoid valve B) in addition to the code 45/85 combo. Thus, I'm fairly certain I am close on this one. But it might still be a culprit.

These last 2 pics show a 2-pin connector with a green wire with a yellow stripe and a brown wire with a black stripe.

Thanks for looking and any insights

Edit: Yes, I know this belongs in the a/t drivetrain section, but I don't have a "rep" yet.

Dunno if it helps but CAPS is saying there are 3 different transmissions.

90-Mid 92 - MD996333
Mid 92-Early 94 - MD971065
Early 94-End of 94 - MD973786

The oval shaped connector, green wire ( looks blue to me) with a yellow stripe/ brown with black stripe connects to two small red wires...
My car is a 93 awd, I have abs and a front mount, so I can't see the other 2pin plug..

Having a 94 OEM AT AWD and having swapped it out for an IPT-built AT AWD trans some time ago, I have encountered similar differences... I ended up swapping both the valve body solenoids, OEM AT Temp Sensor unit, and the speed sensors from my later model W4A33 to that of the older, rebuilt IPT trans. This was what's on the OEM 94 AT trans & car harness:

4 wire plug (green wires) are gear speed sensors (top & P/S externally mounted). Plug that into the only 4 pin plug that has all 4 wires present on the car side.

4 wire plug (only with 3 wires) are the 3 different solenoids in the valve body (BTW, the blue wire is for the flow control solenoid). Plug that into the only 4 pin plug that has only 3 wires present on the car side. This harness on my 94 was also combined with the 2 wire black plug below:
2 wire black plug (small guage red wires) Factory AT Temp sender unit (for OEM AT Trans Temp light). These two red wires go directly into the tranny and have a rubber plug that seals it inside the tranny housing. If you want to use this, you will need to pull the pan & filter to install it... Once the pan & filter are removed, you will need to remove a brass plug (as installed by IPT) that plugs the hole in the tranny housing. Once freed up, that hole is for the rubber plug that is built on to the smaller guage red wire harnes.

The single wire round plug goes to the black ~3" circular cover in the front of the tranny. There should only be one of these on the car side. I believe this is for the kick-down circuit.

I think that the other plugs are all residual MT plugs as I do not have them in my 94... Was this car an OEM-equipped MT AWD?

PM me with an email address if you need me to send you some pics.

The 2 pin plug in pics #9 & #10 is for the AC pressure switch that's normally on the AC hardline that runs next to the passenger side's OE fuse block.

...I take it you aren't running AC anymore? -Me neither! :thumb:

So just trying to clarify.
I have the early 92 transmission and I've got a 93-94 transmission.
I can can swap the parts over to the newer transmission without issues?
In order for the plugs to match up.
The tranny I pulled out is a W4A33K1UP6 my new tranny is a W4A33K1UP61.
Thanks for the help.
