Hey everyone I'm new here and had a question about my car, I'm new to eclipse so don't really know much about them. I have a 1996 gst fwd that I just bough about a month ago as a project car. It sat for 8 years so I did the routine maintenance , spark plugs, oil change , fuel system clean out and it's been running fine, came with a greddy electronic boost controller and greddy turbo timer and car has been running great but I know could use a good tune. Recently was driving and car started smoking, pulled over and popped the hood thinking it was oil but it was only on the transmission side of the motor seeing that the tranny was covered with fluid all over the top of it, can't tell where it was shooting from because nothing was coming out anywhere while car was just sitting there idling just while driving , got the car home and didn't leak with car off either..strange just while driving, any ideas what it could be?

You didn't mention whether it was an auto, or manual.

If it is an auto, and the fluid level is too high, it will force the hot, expanding fluid out of the dipstick tube. Double check your fluid level with the engine warm, idling, and in neutral.

If the fluid level is okay, and fluid is still forced out the dipstick tube, your transmission may be overheating.

Also, autos have coolant lines running to the radiator, flowing with trans fluid. The psi of the line pressure raises approximately 1 psi for every mile an hour. You may have a small trans cooler line leak that sprays trans fluid while you drive.

Hope this helps.

It is a Manual and it wasn't coming from the dipstick, I'm at a loss

I would clean and dry the entire area really well and take a few short drives. Stopping to check frequently where fluid is present.
