I have a 1.5l mirage that I have done a lot of work to (chassis and suspension) to make it competitive at my local scca the next step I would like to do is add a true custom cold air intake bigger throttle body bigger intake manifold bigger fuel rail bigger injectors and exhaust...however, I have a problem that needs to be addressed first...my transmission is in ruff shape and would need one before continuing on, the 95 mirages are few in Idaho so its not like I can go to my local junk yard and pick them up...my question is what other transmission can I put in my car and how do I find them

(I actually like the 1.5l tranny it works great for cone dodging but I don't know where to look maybe I am Google-Ing the wrong thing)...

Well, if you have later than a 1990 Mirage 1.5L, you should have a F5M21 transmission right now. You should have 25-spline axles, so you could either look into a F5M22, F5M31 or early model F5M33 transmission. You would have to change the clutch assembly and flywheel to a turbo FWD DSM and turbo clutch, and slave cylinder, and since the shift selector assembly is different you would likely have to change the shift cables and shifter assembly to a matching year turbo FWD DSM.

If I recall, the F5M33 from 1989-1994 turbo FWD DSM would work with your axle spline count for a front diff, a F5M22 from a 1.8L non-turbo DSM or Galant non-turbo, or a F5M31 from a 2G Eclipse spyder could also work. Either way, you will need to do quite a large amount of research as I do not have any first hand experience with the transmission swap.

I do not know which bellhousings will mount up to your block, nor which shifting assemblies and mounts to utilize.

I would recommend looking on http://www.4g61t.org/forum/

Would it be cheaper to have it rebuilt? What is the issue with the transmission that your replacing it?

You'll need to swap the pedals also, since your transnission is cable and all DSM are hydraulic. As for the engine you don't need to change fuel rail or throttle body, save that money.

My second gear is messed up it always grinds unless I rev it a little (going from 1st to 2nd) and 3rd is starting to go out on me its just an old tranny can I take the guts out of one and transfer them in to my casing is that possible
