Picked up a new DSM today for my friend. Has some shifting issues but overall got a very good deal on the car. Was told it has a 1993 trans and needs a different shift linkage setup in it. Is this true? I need someone to sell me these linkages too if possible or a place to buy them :) Car goes into all of it's gears but some are rough and something is definitely wrong.

When you say rough, is it a shifter block or is it grinding going into gear? I am not up to date on the latest and greatest lubes, but I have used Mobil 1 oil in my trans for years without incident. Or, if you prefer, GM Synchromesh fluid. Now, that being said, shifter block is more noticeable in colder weather and under hard shifting conditions like racing. Replacing the synchros and locks will sometimes "fix" it but not always. Had more luck with the Synchromesh. Grinding going into gear is another matter entirely. That is usually the synchros saying bye bye. 4th gear issues are usually traced to the input shaft bearing in the front of the trans. It may come down to a tear down and inspection. There is no secret bullet that fixes all. Short of a complete overhaul which you may want to know is pretty expensive. Let us know what you find out.

The trans is completely brand new. Has less than 1k miles on it and it was completely rebuilt by my friend before it went in the guys car that i purchased. The trans has a clutch engagement that is almost on the floor and it is very jerky and hard to get out of the hole. It will grind 3rd if you don't touch 4th quick before you go into it. The car feels very jerky in general almost like the clutch is sticking? I've never messed with this so sorry for seeming like a noob. My 1g is Auto :) just want my friends car up and working right. The guy told me one of the shift linkages he thought was from the wrong year and he did his best to get it to go in to all of the gears but couldn't get it perfect.

It also wants to grind in to first a little bit if you're going even 10mph or less with the clutch all the way in it just doesn't want to go in easily. I know the trans was legit so very likely it is another issue.
