This guy wants to sell me this for 80 bucks. Off brand pipe and knn filter. Just wondering if its a decent deal or not.

They usually go less brand new. The fp one goes for 80 brand new if you don't need it recirculated.

I would definitely say not as you can build that cheap pipe with new filter for around 90 or less. Only good side is the KN filter with a metal adapter, which is only 56 on most sites. Maybe around 50 or less because the couplers look a little worn out.

Actually that one in the link is 79 bucks for just the pipe. No filter and no couplers. I'm just wondering if the one I put a picture up of is worth 80 bucks. I mean the filter itself is 50 bucks. Would any of you guys buy it for that price?

Prices vary. I wouldn't pay $80 used. New, they are less than that.

You could do what priority posted. I would use a reputable air filter instead though

That eBay pipe looks like a perfect circle as where the stock 2g maf is an oval. How does that pipe even bolt on?

The picture isn't accurate. The pipe is oval shaped to bolt up to the MAF, just like the injen pipe.

Good deal IMO. Quality air filter is what you need and is worth $50, so you're paying only $30 for the pipe. I wouldn't listen to anyone that tells you to buy cheap china fleabay parts. That's how DSMs break and get their bad reliability reputation.

I don't dispute the quality of eBay parts....but a filter/intake pipe is not a part that would "tarnish the holy reputation of DSM reliability". I would not recommend any engine internals or turbo charger from eBay, but non-moving parts, pipes and what not....not an issue.

People can swear all day a $100 filter does more than a $20 filter but I would challenge them to a real world test any day of the week. I mean I guess we can argue particulate size of dust, your last speed run through Abu Dabi, and the efficacy of materials used in "$100 filters" but I'm no expert on K and N top secret materials (probably sourced from China anyway). If paper filters are more than adequate to filter the air our engines breath....you know what I'm sayin'.

Many have tested "cone filter,cold air,this and that". Most tests show nill to trivial improvement.

Just my thoughts.

$20 filters, $80 filters, NA, turbo, in engine bay, out of engine bay....nothing gained that removing your spare tire and rear seat wouldn't net.

I think the biggest problem with cheap air filters is, that sometimes pieces come unglued, like the metal ring at the top, and gets sucked into the turbo destroying it.

Now new kn filters are only around 50-60 with a metal adapter, so why pay that for a used one? Buy a used no name pipe for cheap or cheap injen and have a new/used intake system for around same price.

Sound reasoning. I've run pod filters of every brand and price point since 1998, on every one of my "tuner" cars, in Nor-Cal 110 degree summers and 38 degree winters. I've personally never had a failure. I have about 6 pod filters on my garage shelf now. I buy 'em like skittles. I can understand wanting to limit catastrophic failures but if you are still running a stock MAF, honey combs might protect the turbo from said failure.

Like I said before, (and many other internet arguments have as well) this topic is just a flame war waiting to happen, so it's kind of a moot point to discuss.

To answer the OP's question- Value is what it means to you, the buyer. If you find value and solace in your purchased decision, you have made the right choice for your application. If you feel you could have achieved the same results taking a different route, then chances are the value of your purchase has decreased, also known as "buyers remorse". Everyone has their own opinions, solutions, and intrinsic values placed upon performance parts of choice. Used, new, eBay, or top shelf suppliers. The value will ultimately depend on your goals, expectations, and willingness to part with the cash to meet those goals.

You can swear by them, against them, chances are though, they will look and sound really cool.....and knowing that is half the battle.
